It was mid-March, and Frankie and Spencer were in his kitchen, working on their semester project for world history. Frankie slid her laptop in front of her and began clicking away, unknowingly capturing Spencer's attention.
He propped his elbow on the counter and rested the side of his jaw on his fist, watching her work. A warm smile tugged at Spencer's face as he thought about the only thing that mattered and how she was sitting right to him.
"So, Harvey wants us to pick a historical event that was written about and fictionalized, then compare and contrast them. Honestly, this is like a double assignment for World History and English."
"Mhmm...."
"But, since we picked Antony&Cleopatra, I was thinking we could talk about their deaths. Sure, Shakespeare romanticized their suicide, but what really happened, ya know?"
Spencer was barely paying any attention to the words coming from those beautiful lips. Frankie looked over at him, a nervous smile on her face when she caught him staring.
"Spence? Helllloooo?"
Frankie waved her hand in front of Spencer's face, giggling to herself a bit when he finally came to, shaking his head.
"Huh?"
"Earth to Spence? You kinda spaced out for a sec. You okay?"
Frankie leaned forward reaching for her bottle of juice. She untwisted the cap and turned a little in her seat, facing Spencer.
"Ye--yeah. I'm good..."
Mr. Castellanos entered the kitchen a moment later, carrying a small suitcase with him. He smiled as he rushed through the kitchen, heading to the pantry for a snack.
"I'm flying out to Chicago for a couple days."
Spencer dropped his highlighter as he cocked an eyebrow, focusing his attention on his father, who was grabbing a few protein bars.
"Everything okay?"
Vincent sighed as he shut the pantry door behind him, a hopeful smile on his face when he turned to Spencer and Frankie after packing his snacks into his carry-on.
"It should be. There's a witness for the Mendoza case who's been kinda flighty. I have to make sure she's ready to testify next week. She's scared, but her testifying could put a really bad guy away for a really long time."
"Just turn on a little of that 'Castellanos charm' and you'll be fine. You know girls can't resist it."
Spencer nearly choked on the air in front of him when Frankie reached over and gripped his chin.
He smiled, feeling every nerve in his entire body ignite with the simplest touch from Frankie and as he felt chills run up and down his neck, he turned back to his father, barely able to form a sentence.
