Principal Lancaster took a step back away from the microphone and began applauding, and as the students in the crowd all joined along with him, Frankie and Spencer descended the stairs connected to the stage.
Hand in hand, Spencer spun Frankie around, pulling her close as Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" began to play.
Recognizing the song instantly, Spencer felt his heart begin to race thumping so loud against his chest that he swore Frankie could hear it. Her eyes met his a second later, and Spencer sucked in a nervous breath as she stared at her lips.
"So...?"
He gave her a curious look, raising an eyebrow as they slowly swayed back and forth.
"So... what?"
Frankie rolled her eyes and tilted her head, huffing a little.
"Come on, Spence. What happened last night?"
Spencer was now the one rolling his eyes. He threw his head back and shook his head, knowing exactly what Frankie was talking about.
"So what'd you hear?"
Frankie shrugged, biting her lip as she looked at her hand on Spencer's shoulder.
"Courtney showed up and was drinking. I mean-- I don't know. I didn't see. I just heard what happened and--"
"Where did you disappear to?"
"I was upstairs."
A knot began forming in Spencer's stomach at the thought of Frankie and Jake tucked away in a bedroom at a party.
"Oh."
Frankie looked up and when she saw the pained look of defeat on Spencer's face, a weird sense of guilt began bubbling up in her stomach. She shook her head a little, offering a little smile with her response.
