Blind + aged down Andy, Pruitt and Ryan

Aged 14

Andy and Ryan had been best friends since they were little, with his dad always away and his mum gone he was raised by a nanny who let him spend all the time he wanted with the little blind girl next door. Andy was born blind thanks to a condition called Leber congenital amaurosis, both Pruitt and Elena were carriers and Andy was that 25%. She had dreams of being a firefighter like her dad but that was never going to be an option the closest thing she could be was a 9-1-1 dispatcher with a special tactile keyboard as the job was majority audio. Ryan always told her to follow her dreams he had been her eyes there whole lives, together they wrote poetry in trees they could always be heard laughing.

That didn't stop Pruitt from raising her at the firehouse, she was 8 when he made Lieutenant and 12 when he became captain. She had grown up with this crew and they all loved her like a daughter but kept her with the help of Ryan away from Chief Ripley on inspection day when they were 13. That's a story in itself.

It was inspection day at 19 and the chief himself was coming to do so, Andy and Ryan were at school that day so that was one less thing to worry about. Pruitt was running round with his crew getting everything into place, hearing the door go the new Lieutenant Robert Sullivan raced to the door to see Andy in her favourite white dress with gold ribbon round her waist and in her hair, Ryan was holding her hand wearing a dark blue hoodie, beige shorts and a matching gold ribbon tied to his belt loop anyone may have said they were siblings if it wasn't for Andy's obvious latino appearance. "What are you two doing here?" "We came to see dad your Robert aren't you the new Lieutenant, I recognise your voice even though we met once," "Yes thats me only not many people call me Robert," "What do they call you then?" "Sullivan though my close friends call me Sully," "Lovely nickname," "You both can call me Sully if you wish," "Come on Ands lets go find your dad," his purpose for going became clear then, "No don't Chief Ripley will be here at any minute now and we can't have other visitors, wait in Cap's office lock yourselves in and I'll tell cap," Ryan nodded but Andy had already guided herself there.

He rushed back and alerted Pruitt of there presence, "As long as they cause no trouble there'll be fine, move you lot." They heard Chief Ripley pull up and once they were all in the barn Andy and Ryan snuck out of Pruitt's office to open the door and blind to see what was going on, "Ryan tell me what's going on, tell me please," Andy begged, "Well the chief is a tall ginger man," "He's Australian isn't he," "Must be by the accent he's wearing a shirt and tie with red pin badges. He's walking up and down inspecting the line of firefighters, come on let's see if we can get closer to hear what there saying," the two quietly jogged down, "Stop when I say we run towards the engine at 3 o'clock," Ryan whispered lining her up in the right direction, he waited until Ripley had his back turned and the two ran to hide behind the engine. "Tell me whats going on now please," Ryan led her to the stairs so they could climb up the side to see, "He's inspecting each kid individually," "I'm impressed Herrera these crew are ship shape my only complaint is that-," his attention got shifted by the sound of Ryan slipping on the shelf, causing a clunking noise, all eyes darted to one another. They had told Andy and Ryan to stay out of trouble, this was most likely Andy asking Ryan to help her find out what was going on.

Ripley walked fast round the back of the engine, "Oy this is city property what are you doing here?!" He barked roughly grabbing the two of them, "Let go!" Ryan yelled, "Ryan what's happening," "Your a daft girl you broke into city property and you have the nerve to ask what's happening," "Andrea Ryan!" Pruitt exclaimed, "Dad where are you," "10 o'clock," he retorted, she forced her way free and ran with her arms out stretched looking for her dad, "Right here, Ryan," he also ran to take his hand, "They're allowed to be here Chief this is my daughter Andrea and her best friend also our neighbour Ryan he may as well my son and for your ignorance she's blind," Andy found her voice then, "I've always wanted to be a firefighter like papa but obviously I can't. 19 are my our family they pointed me towards a new dream of being a dispatcher as it doesn't require my sight, they still make me feel included I could tell you where everything is in this firehouse because how many times I've felt the nooks and crevices. Please say something so I know where you are," she asked her glazed over brown eyes didn't move as she turned her head, "I'm sorry for that muffle would you like to help me inspect the firefighters," he took a step forward offering her a hand, sensing it she waved around till she found it and slotted herself onto his arm like they were entering an old fashion ball.
