You took a quick double take as you looked around to make sure no one was watching. You were focused as it was dark outside, but you were used to that from all the sneaking around you did. It's been going on for well over a month now, and you didn't want to but you had to if you wanted see him. You were in a secret relationship with Espio the chameleon and the chaotix weren't allowed to find out because they were all pretty much married to the job and it just wouldn't do if he were spending all his time he could be working on cases with you. After all, it was his focus and determination that made him the detective that he was. 

You quietly rapped on the door of the building, getting ready to somersault into a nearby bush if needed. The door opened. It was Espio!

"Espio!" You cried and threw yourself into his loving arms.

"Shhh, (y/n)" He shushed you with his finger on his lips as his other arm held you. "Not too loud"

"Sorry" You whispered and held his hands. He shut the door and you were both left alone together.

"How have you been since our last encounter?" He asked as you both sat down and he gave you something to drink.

"I've been doing pretty well, and I hope the same for you" you answered as you sipped from your mug. "How are the rest of the chaotix? Still falling for that fake case we sent them on?"

"They're still very interested in it, but they can't seem to get any further forward" he chuckled and put his arm around you. You two knew that you would never get peace to be together with Vector and Charmy always around and so you two came up with an idea to keep them away. You reported something missing to them. You told them that your necklace had disappeared and was a priceless family heirloom. Of course you had to pay for them to get on the case, but you couldn't put a price on love, could you?

"We're gonna have to let them know at some point, Espio" 

"I know that, but just when? " He signed.

"We can't always be running around like this, avoiding everyone"

"True, but when will the time be right? I really don't know. Let's just enjoy our time together while it lasts" he smiled as he looked into your eyes. You gave him a small smile back and looked away and blushed because you were shy. He put his arms around you and you kissed gently. Neither of you were aware of a key being turned and the door opening. Vector and Charmy appeared and were shocked.

"ESPIO?" Vector exclaimed.

"Wha- Vector? What's going on?" Espio gasped and looked around as he saw that you were caught.

"I could ask you the same thing" The crocodile folded his arms. "(Y/N)?"

"EWWWWWWWW, they were kissing!" Charmy said in disgust.

"What are you doing with her?" Vector demanded.

"She uh...came to me for support, and uh..." He sweated profusely as he didn't know what to say.

"Wait a minute, I thought that necklace was missing! What are you doing with it round your neck?" It didn't take a detective to work out what was going on.

"Alright" Espio signed and got up to face Vector. "This whole case is fake, we sent you on a wild goose chase, but it was only because we knew that you wouldn't approve of us being together"

"Imagine risking your job for a girl! Yucky" Charmy snickered.

"Never mind that, Charmy, don't you realise how serious this is? You lied to us! And what about all the other cases that we could've been working on. I thought we had an agreement not to date our customers?" Vector spoke strictly.

"We're really sorry" you said to him. You were really upset.

"(Y/n), please, let me handle this. Vector" He signed. "Yes, I do realise how serious this is and just how wrong, but as for those other cases, I've been working on them in my free time, look" he said as he showed his friend a drawer full of paperwork and evidence from crime scenes.

"Hmm, go on" Vector mused.

" And as for our little rule we agreed on, (y/n) doesn't distract me, she's a help to me if anything. You know that it's my dedication and focus that makes me who I am, but you can see from this that I haven't let silly feelings get in the way of hard work, but Vector, this is real, I think...I'm in love" he admitted.

"Espios in loooove! Espios in looooove!" Charmy bee giggled.

"Shut up, Charmy" Vector frowned. "Well " He scratched his head. "Even though you did waste a lot of our time, I think you might have a point. You haven't been slacking off, I'll admit, you still seem your old self. Maybe our rule was silly, besides, there is a certain rabbit I think likes me" He smiled as he thought of Vanilla. "It's cool, buddy" he slapped him on the back to let him know it was alright. "But what about the necklace?" Vector asked.

"I got it at the mall" you admitted in embarrassment. You and your boyfriend then went on to explain how you had met during a case where you called him. Your house was destroyed and he soon discovered it was the work of Eggman and how you went on a date after to celebrate the mystery being solved.

You could've cried though! You and him were free to be together now!

And so...

"Hey boys! I brought cookies!" You smiled as you entered with a hot tray of treats.

"Yay!" Cheered Charmy.

"Ooh, gimme!" Vector snatched them as he got up from his desk to have a break from the mysterious case he was working on.

You laughed and joked and talked with them and played music and they grew to love you and your company over time. Espio was meditating in the corner, and feeling just a LITTLE bit annoyed with all the noise. Maybe even regretting all this? Nah! Not likely!
