y/n POV

I had just returned from my first mission as an ANBU captain, no one died, AND we got the info we needed so i'd call that a success, 'hmmm i suppose what I should do is go to the hokages office to deliver this but, eh, it can wait until tomorrow,

Now i dont have the best sense of smell, but I know blood when I smell it, and this time it filled the air with the stench, and it was coming from... the compound

'Shit' i thought as i ran as fast as I could to the gates of the Uchiha compound, my legs burned in agony from the pain, but I ignored till the gates were in sight,

I immediately noticed what was off, the guards weren't there, but through the darkness I could make out two shapes crumpled on the ground,

I gasped, the two shapes were the guards that were normally there.

Their throats slit open, and their blood seeped into the ground, I felt their bodies, still semi warm. So, this means that the killer could still be here.

I ran through the village, passing bodies upon bodies of uchihas, it hurt, but my main priority was to make sure Fugaku, the clan leader was alright

As i was running, I heard a blood curdling scream, wait 'Sasuke?' I remembered Itachi's words "if anything happens, i want you to take care of Sasuke, okay?

Was this what he meant? Did he know what was going to happen?

By now, my legs were screaming in agony, the kunai wound I got on the mission opened up again, and blood seeped through the bandages on my ankle.

That's when I felt a chakra signature coming up behind me, I turned and activated my three tomoe sharingan and did a roundhouse kick as I turned, but it was caught

I started to make hand signs but I was pulled into a hug? I was furious, but I looked up and all my anger disappeared

Tears filled my eyes as I finally registered what happened

"I-itachi, w-what happened?" my voice broke, as I buried my face into his chest,

"y/n" I froze and looked up, tears still running down my face, but that's not the problem, the problem is that Itachi never called me by my full name, it was always n/n

That's how I knew something was wrong, I finally met his eyes, his sharingan was activated, and in the hand he wasnt hugging me with, he held a bloodied katana,

I tried to pull away, but his grip was like steel, he held me in place, his eyes had a distant look to them, as if he was deep in thought

"Tachi?" I called him by his old nickname, i hadn't called him that since we were six, and it seemed to pull him out, he seemed a bit shocked at this

"y/n, do you remember what you promised me that day on the dock?" his eyes refocused

"Of course, to take care of Sasuke if anything happened, b-but then I asked why would anything happen, and you told me to just promise" I paused, letting everything sink in, deep down in my heart I think I knew the answer, but I held on to that sliver of hope that what I thought was untrue.

"Yes, well Im asking you fulfill that promise now, go to my house and go to the third room down, there you will find Sasuke"

"Tachi, did did you do this?" my voice broke

He focused his beautiful onyx eyes on me, his sharingan was deactivated,

"I did it to test my power" his grip had loosened on me and managed to break away, but i fell, one because of the shock that one of my best friends just killed my entire clan, and two, my leg hurt so much now that I couldnt put any weight on it
