Matchmaking Packets

I got up out of my mind just like a spring that was wound up and then released.  I was so excited! Today was the day that Dex, Biana, and Keefe (even though he didn't want to) got their matchmaking packets.  The only reason Fitz and I weren't getting ours is that I didn't know who my dad was and Fitz already received his results.

I went downstairs and grabbed some food off the countertop, Mallowmelt (My favorite dessert), and some other food that looked delicious.  I started eating the white and blue soup-ish food when Edaline was eating across from me.

"What's the rush?"  She asked.

"Everyone got their matchmaking packets and were meeting up at Candleshade to go over and look at them,"  I explained.  "Okay, see you in a couple of hours."

I went over to the leap master and held my crystal up to the light, it was a wonderful experience that you felt when your body dissolved into the light, but it disappeared in the same second.

I appeared in the front yard of Candleshade, it was a beautiful mansion with two grand doors and a green front yard. I walked up to the front and knocked on the door, in the exact same second Keefe answered the door.  Standing over his shoulder was Ro (Keefe's bodyguard) she was an ogre who was sent to protect Keefe.

"Hi Keefe,"  I said.

"Hello Foster,"  He said.

"Why do you have to be like 'Hi Keefe, Hi Foster.'  It is way too romantic,"  Ro said with a grin spreading across her face like she was scheming a plan.

He moved out of the way and let me in.  We went into the silver elevator and the doors slowly shut.  The elevator doors opened up with a bing.  And we walked out into the room.  The room felt so open, there were glass windows stretching from the floor all the way up to the ceiling.

We walked over to Dex and Biana and I saw they each had their packets, it was lying face down on the floor so no one else could see them yet.

"Where's Fitz?"  I asked.

"He had to go help Alden with a project he was working on,"  Biana said.  "Okay guys, I'll go first."  Biana flipped over her packet and her face widened with surprise.

"Who's your number 1,"  Keefe asked.  "It's probably me."

Dex then flipped his packet over and he looked sad.

Lastly, Keefe flipped over his packet, and his facial expression slowly changed from a smile to a frown.

"I knew it, of course, it's her,"  He mumbled.

"Okay, the order of who will say their number one is Biana, Dex, and then Keefe,"  I said.

"Okay my number one is,"  Biana said. "Tam Song."

All of our mouths gawked open with surprise.

"Just to make sure I heard you right, you said Tam Song?"  Keefe asked.  "Bangs boy."

"Yeah,"  Biana said with disappointment.

"Okay, who's your number one?"  Biana asked Dex.

"My number one is Biana!"  Dex said with excitement.

"Seriously, that was what I was hoping for,"  Biana said, they went over to look at each other's packets.

"Guys, we will do that later, let's see who Keefe's number one is,"  I said.  "Keefe?"

"My number one is Sophie,"  Keefe said.

"I knew it would be here,"  Dex said with a bit of jealousy in his voice.

"I think you guys are perfect for each other,"  Biana said sweetly.

"Back to you Foster, did you get the whole Matchmaking packet deal figured out yet?"  Keefe asked.

I didn't like talking about the subject of my biological parents, not even around my best friends, but I still answered him.

"I'm still trying to figure it out,"  I said.  "But I have some clues and hints of who my dad is..."

When I came back to Havenfield I saw that Grady had Eldaline helping him calm Verdi down, Eldaline was conjuring up ropes while Grady and the gnomes were trying to harness Verdi with the ropes.

"Do you need some help?"  I screamed.

"Yes, please,"  Grady screamed over his shoulder.  I ran over as fast as I could (which wasn't very fast) and grabbed the piece of rope that Grady gave me.  I threw the rope over Verdi's head and the gnomes grabbed it and anchored it, while Grady and Edaline were throwing the chains over his body.

I went over to Grady to see if there was anything wrong with him but there was nothing.  We went over and changed the left side of his body and there was a big red gash running down the side of his back-left leg.  I ran my fingers over the cut, it was curving along his leg...it was the mercinder.

"Dad come look at this,"  I said with my voice full of shock.

"What is it,"  Grady said.  "What happened."

"Maybe the neverseen are trying to give us a message,"  I said.

"Here let's lead him to his cage,"  Grady said.  Grady, me, and all the gnomes were pulling Verdi as hard as we could into the cage, but Luna and Wynn were in the cage when we got there.

"Oh c'mon,"  I said.

I went over and gently lifted Wynn and Luna off the floor and brought them over to Silveny and Greyfall across the field.  After I made sure Wynn and Luna would stay next to their parents, I went back over to Grady and put Verdi in his cage.

"That was hard,"  I heaved as we walked inside.

"Good thing we have you,"  Eldaline said.  "You should go to bed Sophie."

"It's only five o'clock,"  I said.

"Yeah but you only sleep like a couple of minutes a day,"  Eldaline argued.

"Fine, I'll go to bed,"  I said, I walked up the stairs and went into my room, Sandor was standing there, guarding my bed.

"Where have you been,"  He said.  Polishing one of his throwing stars.

"If actually have to go to bed,"  I said.  "So please don't disturb me."

I walked over to my bed and closed my eyes, and no, I didn't actually fall asleep.
