Keisha

I wake up to a light rocking. Kahlil is sitting in front of me.

"Mornin'." I yawn.

He frowns. "You slept on the floor in a sleeping bag."

"You were a guest—"

"No I am a burden. You didn't need to help me."

I sit up and he immediately looks away from me.

I get up and pull on a tee.

I brush my teeth and enter the kitchen to make breakfast. "No one really used that room. My grandad and I usually slept out on the deck. Real camping style. But in comfort. I knew you'd argue so I didn't let you get the chance. Do you have any food restrictions?"

He shakes his head.

"Is there any way I could make it up to you?"

"Don't be a slob?" I say grabbing eggs and sausage.

"Keisha I'm being serious."

"So am I?" I chuckle.

We have a silent breakfast.

"Oh yeah. I'm not getting into a canoe with you." I tell him.

"Keisha how-"

I grab my two helmets. "Unless you want to spend half an hour rowing back?"

"Nope let's go."

We get out to the shed where my bike is.

We get on and I warn him. "This is my first time riding with someone who weighs quite a bit more than me. I have no back rest. You either grab onto the handles or me, alright?"

"Got it." I can tell he's really trying not to make contact with me.

My bike comes alive and the second I accelerate Kahlil removes his hands from the back handles and tightly grabs onto my torso in a rush. And that space between us is nonexistent.

Scaredy-cat.

I suck in a breath. His hands are huge and I can feel the warmth through my shirt.

I shake the feeling off and readjust my footing accordingly.

A few minutes later I we make it. "Kahlil... I stopped."

He lets go. "T-thanks for the ride. That was terrifying."

"You just aren't used to it. Tamera was the same when I first rode with her. Now she's a pro passenger."

I look at the cottage and it is bad.

"Kahlil when's the last time someone's been here? I can see that termites among other creatures turned this into a hotspot."

"Uh the last time I remember coming here... I was probably like five with my Dad... I don't know if he ever dropped by but I know I haven't."
