Kahlil
Now did Keisha use me to distract herself from everything that's going on?
Yes.
I knew and I still let her?
Yes.
What good would it have done if I sat her down to talk when she doesn't want that?
I drive her home this morning. Her Mom is no where to be found.
As Keisha gets ready. I ask her, "so am I
going with you?""Yes," she says confidently.
"Uh what do I wear? I don't exactly have a suit."
She leaves the room briefly and comes back with a blazer. The second she holds it up I see the Simone in silver stitching on the chest.
"Keisha... I can't wear his blazer."
"I want you to," she says, "and by know you should know that you are family and he viewed you as such. So please. Wear the jacket. You can wear black jeans and a regular shirt but it would mean a lot to me."
I take a breath and take it.
"If it makes you uncomfortable you don't have to-"
I cut her off. "I will be honoured to wear the jacket." I smile at her. I just wanted her to be sure about this.
When she's ready we head to my place so that I can get ready.
We run into my mom who also looks ready for the occasion.
"Why are you always so late for things?" She lightly scolds me.
"I had to drive her home so she could get ready then drive us here so I can—" Keisha elbows me. By the look I'm receiving she is calling me an idiot.
So Mom looks at us suspiciously. "Where were you last night?"
Keisha laughs. "Who said anything about last night."
"Okay then. Where were you this morning?" She stares me dead in the eyes. "So it was last night."
"Kahlil, you are killing me." Keisha sighs.
I frown. "You can't expect me to lie to her it's not my fault."
"I'm waiting."
"Robin I have an apartment where I go where I want to be alone. It's closer than the cabin. It's still in the neighbourhood so no one needs to worry."
It's silent for a few moments. Mom's suspicion doesn't falter.
"Did you two—"
"Yes," Keisha says and pulls me upstairs.
"You didn't even know what she was going to say!"
Keisha chortles. "Your face says enough."
"She's right Kahlil!" Mom yells from downstairs.
I lightly roll my eyes. I change quickly.
"Why does the hair you barely have on the top of your head take so long to dry? Why don't you just take a shower cap?" Keisha has been speaking her thoughts aloud.
"My hair just holds a lot of water."
"You know, ever since my birthday you have been touching your face a lot more?"
"Well I've never had this much hair on my face before!"
She laughs. "It's barely peach fuzz my friend."
