Keisha
"Keisha will you stop looking at us like that?"
I scrunch up my face more. "Mother... was it your plan to get me out of the house?"
She rolls her eyes. "What I do with my husband in my home is none of your business."
"I'm so disappointed." I shake my head.
"Can you go to school?"
"Can you go to work?"
"I'm off today which means she's off today," Pops says.
"Okay, heads up I'm gonna be home late. Probably after dinner."
"Why where are you going?"
"Out, don't worry, it's not far. I'll be with some trustworthy people."
"Why are you being so secretive?"
"I'm not." I chuckle.
"Be home by ten?"
I race out the door. "I can't make promises I can't keep."

After school I go meet up with Amia.
"Why are you acting like you are in a strangers house? Come on!" She drags me along.
"Well Amia this is the first time—"
"They are more chill than your parents are—" We freeze up seeing our grandparents tearing up.
"What's wrong?" we ask.
They hug us. "Amia you are having another cousin!"
"I thought Auntie made Uncle get you know."
I smile softly.
"Not them Amia."
She looks confused. Then she glances at me. "Your lying!"
I shake my head.
She pretty much jumps in my arms. "The Kumar's are pregnant! Your gonna be a big sister! How could you not tell me!"
"I met you here two minutes ago!"
"And the first thing you should've said was 'My mom is Pregnant!'"
"Well, she's pregnant!" I chuckle.
"How? They always said they wouldn't try." Amia says.
I put the girl down and scratch my head. "Uh I kinda confronted Doc and he kinda broke down. Mom made me leave the house so they could sort stuff out because it's not that they didn't want to try. He was scared that the medical personnel would let her down—let them down again. Just like the day I was born. He was like traumatized. I bet he's still scared but they are taking it day by day."
"Speaking of babies. Where is my brother? I know his nap is over."
"He's upstairs on the floor."
"You let him sleep on the floor!"
Amia runs.
I lightly shake my head.
"Nice of you to come and visit, Keisha."
I feel so shy. I'm never shy. What's happening! "I wanted to come by for a while. I just didn't want to come at a bad time. Amia told me she was picking up JJ so I told her I'd come too."
