Kahlil

I get to the Kumar house early in the morning.

Marilyn answers the door and says I can't come in. Then she orders her husband to hide Keisha's prom dress and there is a lot of running. Eventually I am let in.

"What brings you here this morning, Kahlil?"

"Keisha was upset, but calm last night. I wanted to make sure she woke up with a smile. So what makes her smile more than me?" I grin.

Keithan just has to knock me down a peg. "Milkshakes. Milkshakes make her smile more than you make her smile."

"I'm not giving her a milkshake first thing in the morning—"

"I heard milkshakes!" She runs downstairs in her pjs.

"Baby, no milkshakes. Just me." I tell her.

She hugs me. "That's slightly disappointing, but I'll take it."

I kiss the top of her head. "Go get ready for school. I'm making you breakfast."

She goes back upstairs.

Keithan grabs his briefcase. "Well we are off. Kahlil, just know she will probably act like it's not a big deal. Last night someone went to attack Jude. So we had to go get her and there was a lot of yelling—"

"Say my name, Keithan. I'd gladly do it again." Marilyn grin mischievously.

"I'm sorry, but how could she possibly—"

"I have a modified hoverkart which travels at high speeds."

"You are like a wise teenager. You know that?" I glance at the woman in a chair.

"I like to enjoy life. Now Keithan, let's go. Those twin girls are waiting for their first story of the day."

They leave and I get pans and cutting boards out.

I hum to myself.

Eventually arms wrap around me. "You are clingy this morning," I chime and turn around in her arms and see my girl smiling.

"I love you."

I chuckle. "I love you too. You wanna tell me what's been going on?"

"I'm going to be a big sister."

I gasp. "Marilyn is—"

"Yes."

"That's crazy! We are getting another sibling—"

"Pause, I already told you Tatum is mine."

"He was mine first."

Keisha steps away from me and pulls out her phone.

"Hello?" She called my Dad.

"I would like to speak to my baby brother before he leaves for school."

"You and Kahlil are being weird again aren't you?"

"Draymond it's a simple request."

We hear him scoff.

"Hello!" We hear that squeaky British voice.

"Morning Tatum."

"Keisha!"

"Hi buddy. How are you?"

"I'm good. I'm waiting for the train!"

"Are you waiting with Donna?"

I frown. Who's Donna?
