Although they resisted, Sebastian sent all the people together with all the men of the gang to the secret place for protection. He didn't want any of them to be in danger, nor did he want their enemies to gain any advantage, such as kidnapping or something worse.
With the people also went Elena, because she's too young to fight and because she can serve as a link between them. Matty and Eva accompanied her to protect her better.
And so, we come to the night before the great battle.

That's what he thinks as he sits alone in the garden, gazing up at the dark sky. Then a memory intrudes on his mind. A memory of him and Night shortly after he was born.
~ AGES AGO ~
Night has just breathed into the mouth of the naked man lying at her feet, and he opens his big blue eyes.
Night: Welcome to the world, Guardian.
He stands up and looks around in confusion. The wet dark walls are full of moss and lichen. The ground beneath his bare feet is cold, but he doesn't feel it.
He touches his body, trying to get to know it. The strong thighs, the steely arms, the flat stomach, the big third limb between his legs. Night coughs to get his attention. He looks up at her.
Sebastian: Who're you?
Night: I'm Night, the goddess of darkness, the sister of God.
Sebastian: What am I?
Night: You're a hybrid of wolf and vampire. You have all the advantages of both species, but none of their weaknesses.
Sebastian: You created me?
Night: Yes.
Sebastian: And why?
Night: To protect Jonathan, my brother's beloved angel. He asked me to create you.
Sebastian: Will this angel be my master?
Night: No. You have no master. You're a free spirit. I made you this way. You'll never kneel to anyone. Do you understand me?
