I talked to her today. Finally. It wasn't much, but it was something. I kept replaying our little convo over and over again in my head.

"Um-hi-um-Biana," I said nervously.

"Hey, Tam! What's up?" She asked, in a super friendly way.

"Oh, um-nothing really-" I chuckled awkwardly, "What about you?"

"Well Dex and I are going on a date later tonight," She said, but she kind of looked... Sad about it?

"Oh, that's cool. I guess," I tried hard to keep the jealousy out of my voice, but with each time I saw her, it was getting harder and harder to mask.

"Yeah. It is."

After that we both walked away to our classes, and I haven't seen her since. I wondered if she was out on her date with Dex down. I wondered if they had kissed yet. I wondered why they were together. And above all of that, I wondered why she seemed sad. Or better yet, slightly disappointed.

Girls.

Also, Fitz is obsessed with my crush on Biana. Says that I'm so much better than Dex. Which, I mean, I would love to date Biana, but I don't like to put myself above anyone. Besides, Dex is a nice person. He treats Biana well, and she seems to like him.

She doesn't always act like it though.

"Tam, you just need to man up and confess to my sister already," Fitz pressured me for the 100th time. He had walked up to me right before I was about to leap home with Linh, and frustratingly pulled me to the side.

"Fitz, why do you want me to date your sister so bad anyway? What do you have against Dex?" I asked, no totally sure if I wanted to hear the answer.

"Dex... He's fine. But he'll ruin the Vacker legacy. My sister can't be with someone... Like him."

"What do you mean, like him? And besides, I have a twin. Wouldn't that ruin your stupid Vacker legacy too?" I figured, annoyance creeping up inside me.

"Well... Yes... You have a twin, but it would be better than having... Someone talentless in the family."

"What the heck Fitz?! Besides, Dex isn't even talentless!" I took a deep breath and tried to keep my cool, "Look, why are you so bothered by it anyway, you like Sophie don't you? And she's unmatchable right? Wouldn't that be bad for your dumb Vacker Legacy?"

Fitz turned away from me, and I tried to resist punching him square in the face. Suddenly he turned to face me, his eyes misty.

"Look, I don't really have anything against Dex. Or Sophie. Sophie and I are better off as friends, I realize that now, but not because she's umatchable. My dad is the one that thinks all of this. That's why I never used to hang out with Dex. And for a while I was just living in the dark and just following what my dad would tell me to do, but now I realize, that what he wants isn't fair. Or right," He paused, "And I think you should confess to Biana not because Dex's father is talentless, but because she's not as happy as you think she is Tam. She's not as happy as she pretends to be."

"Whoa," Was all I could say, "That's... Crazy. I never would have expected Alden to do that," I said, bewildered.

"Yeah, me either. I guess the 'Vacker Legacy' is pretty important to him, huh?" Fitz shrugged.

"Guess so."

"Well, I have to go, Biana made me promise to take her shopping at Atlantis once school ended."

I could be the one taking her shopping. Me.

"Okay," I nodded, "See you around, Fitz."

"See you later, Tam."

Then Fitz leaped away.

"What was that all about?" Linh asked, walking over to me.

"Nothing," I lied, "Let's head home."

She narrowed her eyes at me, "Okay... If you say so..."

But when I got home, I would have never expected the news that waited for me. I would never expected Linh's teary eyes, or my parents solemn faces. I wouldn't expect that the love of my life, and my sister, would all be taken from me in a blink of an eye.

No. I never would have guessed. Not in a million years.
