He was going to kiss her.

Airne looked up Cadimus and she knew that if she did not move or somehow wrench herself away from the dragon prince, he was going to kiss her and what was worse was that part of her wanted him to.

Even with all of the flames around them a part of her shivered feeling cold.

She couldn't do this, not with him, not with Cadimus....even if she wanted to.

She turned her head away at the last second and Cadimus lips brushed against her jaw instead. Heat blazed where his lips touched and a part of her wanted to give into that fire, and then Cadimus was stepping back and away from her.

She looked at him and those blue eyes burned like the fire that surrounded him, her breath caught.

He opened his mouth to say something and was interrupted by a loud noise and the edge of the dream blurred.

"What is happening?" she asked trying to get control of her pounding heart.

"I don't know," Cadimus answered, and then he vanished.

Alarms were going off everywhere in the castle. Cadimus leapt out of bed and with a flick of his hand was dressed. He reached for the oversized garnet cuff in his top drawer, wrenched it over his wrist and marched out into the hall.

The house staff and vipers who had been left behind were running around, he grabbed the first servant passing by the shirt collar, when the young man tried to escape Cadimus threw him against the wall pinning him with one arm.

"What is happening?" he demanded.

"We are under attack," the young servant responded trembling.

An explosion echoed down the hall and Cadimus ducked as dust and debris flew up towards him.

"Find my cousin, make sure she's safe," he ordered.

The Dragon blooded nodded vigorously and Cadimus let him go as another blast shook the building.

Balls, those damned Phoenix's had some giant fucking balls attacking his house, one of the greatest Dragon blooded fortresses in existence. Growling Cadimus grabbed hold of the railing and in one smooth move he leapt over the edge and dropped down the nearly twenty feet to the floor landing in a crouch amid the dust and debris.

Taking a centering breath Cadimus slowly stood.

This was home.

Fuck them, he snarled mentally, Fuck all of them for coming here.

They would pay, he would make them pay.

A phoenix appeared through the dust, all red hair and burning hands and Cadimus lips curled into a dark smile as his hands fisted ready for the fight.

Cadimus dodged the first blow sweeping low he knocked the phoenix's feet out from beneath him and smashed his fist into the older man's jaw knocking him out immediately. It felt immensely satisfying especially given the fact that the last battle he had fought had ended with him stripped and bound.
