Airne balked pulling back.

"They...they who? Abeloth?"

He glared at her.

"No, your brother's people, the Phoenixes."

"Oh," her shoulder relaxed noticeably. If his cousin was with her brother then she was fine. Her brother would never treat a young dragon blooded the way Airne had already been treated here.

"Oh?!" he snapped. "The enemy has my cousin and you're response is oh."

"I thought you meant that your cousin was in danger being used as leverage to make you do something."

"She is!" he said exasperated.

She, Airne's mind started racing. If her brother or friends had taken a woman captive it meant that she was probably young enough to still be saved.

"If she's with my brother, she's safe. I promise," there was no way that she could prove to Jacob that his cousin was safe, she only hoped that he would believe her.

"Like you are?" he demanded.

"Safer," she said glaring.

Safer than she probably was here, thought Airne darkly.

"They stripped her of her power."

"They won't hurt or torture her," Airne shot back, "And they certainly won't put her in a dungeon because we literally don't have those."

"No, you never keep anyone alive long enough to need one."

"They aren't going to kill her."

"How do you know that, she's not like you."

"What do you mean by that?"

"She's...delicate."

Delicate?

"She's probably stronger than you think. What is her name?"

"Edan."

Airne blinked.

"Lady Edan...lady Edan is your cousin? Does she know that?"

"Apparently," Cadimus looked away. "I didn't know she was aware."

"How old is she?"

"Seventeen, nearly eighteen."

"Has she been clipped yet?"

"What do you mean? Why do you keep asking that?"

"You really don't know?"

"Know what Airne?!" he almost growled it, clearly not in the mood to ask questions. He needed answers and if he really didn't know about what his kind did then she was going to tell him. If anything she hoped it would make him see things more clearly, maybe help him to come around to their side.

All she had to do was tell the truth.

Airne took a deep breath.

"Dragon blooded women grow wings Jacob, real, physical wings... and you....your kind cut them off."

"Come Cadimus, we are going to lunch at the Jarenth's ," Nurunia's voice pulled Cadimus away from his thoughts as he stood in the  main hall staring into the fire.
