~Cher
I am beyond grateful that Ace has decided to come today to help us around. The waiters and waitresses my mother has hired aren't enough to handle all the tables. Unfortunately, my grandmother has traveled to Paris a couple of days ago so she isn't here to help us too. Ace has been waiting on tables while my mother and I manage the situation in the kitchen.
The people are going crazy outside. As soon as a table clears, people quickly rush in and take their place. My mother's offers on a day like this are not to miss. I can hardly hear my mother speaking to me from how loud it is out there. People are everywhere. I can hear someone's cellphone ringing, someone's child wailing asking for dessert, people clinging their cups together, others are laughing their hearts out. All the sounds blend together, creating a pretty noisy environment.
I don't mind it though. When I see people's smile when they get a taste of whatever they ordered, I am satisfied. Just seeing their smiles is enough for me. As for Ace, that is not enough. I'm damn sure that he is regretting asking my mother to come here.
"Cher." My mother calls me.
I momentarily lift my head to look at her, "Yeah?"
"What happened with Adrian?" She asks me.
I look back at the cupcakes in front of me and I carefully press the frosting out of the piping bag.
"He doesn't want to talk to me." I answer her.
"Didn't he call you and you said that everything was close to okay?"
"Yeah, but yesterday he called me to check up on me since I forgot to call him. I told him that I wanted to go there and be there with him but he just yelled at me claiming that I'm so persistent and that he doesn't need me there. I told him to call me when he wants his best friend back."
"Cher.." I know that tone.
"I don't really care. He can do whatever he wants. Besides, I haven't thought about it that much."
I really haven't. Ace has occupied my mind all the way back home, and when we returned, Natalie was there. Then I started thinking about my dreams while I listened to the cello. Then I technically passed out. I feel like I didn't have time to think about. But it doesn't make it hurt any less whenever it crosses my mind.
"I hardly believe that. You love that boy. He's been your best friend since forever." She reminds me, "He will come around. I am sure."
"I'm not." I tell her, "Adrian is going through a lot right now. And I don't think he'll remember that we are best friends any time soon."
"Honey, Adrian loves you. It is really hard to see the person you love to fall out of love with you. And it is hard for you to see them fall for someone else."
"But I'm not falling in love with anyone else." I squint my eyes at her in confusion.
Her lips form a smirk, "You sure? Cause I see where your eyes wander every couple of minutes."
"Mom..." I grumble in annoyance and shift my attention back to the cupcakes. "For the millionth time, Ace and I are just friends. He made that very clear to me. Now, can you please stop bringing it up."
"I can't." She is all giddy, "I am seeing my baby fall in love for the first time."
"Save me your predictions and assumptions."
"You'll see." She promises me, and it kind of scares me.
I shake my head at her. I really ran out of energy to argue with her. She will not be convinced and I will not listen to her either. She thinks she's right, and I am positive that what she thinks will never happen.
