POV Rosalie
Over the following year and some months I have ended up with bruises and sprains, but nothing more. The factionless can be brutal, but we fight fire with fire. There have been times my platoon have had to call in back up. Slowly but surely Miles, while still worried out of his mind, is able to relax more about work.
Two weeks before the next Choosing Ceremony, two years of being in Dauntless, I'm watching a movie with Miles on our week off-we're bantering back and forth-when Miles looks at his phone and his eyes widen. He puts his finger to his lips when I open my mouth to ask what's wrong.
Tobias texted and told me that the whole fucking faction is currently able to hear us.
HOW?
I don't know. He told us to shut up and get to the control room. Miles says, shaking his head. I get up and slip into my boots while Miles turns off the oven where he had been making cookies for our movie day and joins me, handing me my platoon jacket-his own platoon jacket and boots already on. He ushers me out of the apartment and towards his brother.
"What the fuck?" He demands when we enter the control room.
"We have no idea. Phones." Zeke says, hand out. I slowly do as asked, confusion written all over my face.
"We're going to make sure recording devices and chips hadn't been snuck into them." Gus says, taking my phone from Zeke while Zeke works on Miles'.
"As in, the whole faction could read our texts too?"
"Potentially." Gus says. I blush and look away from everyone.
"Do I even want to know?" Four asks.
"No." Miles and I say in unison. Not even two minutes later Veronica, Max, and Eric join us, looking irritated and/or angry.
"Is there any particular reason the whole faction knows of the going ons in my son and daughter-in-law's apartment?" Veronica demands.
"I'm trying, Veronica, but I can't tell yet. The most I can tell is that everyone could hear them." Four says, typing furiously on his computer.
"Okay, so both of your phones are clean." Gus says, handing me back my phone as Zeke gives Miles his.
"At least there's that."
"I'm sorry, guys, but I'm going to have to actually go in to figure this out." Four says.
"What do you mean 'go in'?" I ask, arms crossed.
"As in, I'm going to have to go into your apartment and invade your home." He clarifies, grabbing a tablet.
"Zeke-"
"I can handle it here. You two go figure this out." Zeke says. Gus picks up another tablet and they lead the way out.
"What the fuck?" I mutter in confusion. Veronica puts a gentle hand on my arm before following them.
I let them all into the apartment and Gus smiles.
"Smells like cookies."
"Yeah, we were making them for movie night." I say bitterly.
"You can finish cooking them, but movie night shouldn't be here." Four says as he gets to work.
"What was your first clue?" Miles asks angrily.
"Miles." Veronica chides.
"I think they have a right to be bitter and angry, Veronica. Their privacy was just extremely invaded." Surprisingly Eric says.
