When Fulvus arrived back at the base he continued to clutch the metal container as if his life depended on it. He didn't know what it was but he knew that it must have been very important.
"Don't worry, Fulvus," assured Clint as the quinjet landed, harshly, but it landed. "I'm sure that Fury will be glad that you got it and he'll take it off your er talons."
Fulvus shook his head. "I want to know what it is and why he wanted it so badly. We killed a lot of men to get it. Was it all worth it?"
Clint smiled and ruffled the feathers on top of Fulvus's head. "I'm not sure that's a possibility but you can at least ask him. The worst he can say is no."
Fulvus nodded before he picked up the container and exited the quinjet with Clint right beside. They didn't say anything to the team since it was evident that no one wanted to speak to them either. Fulvus romped around the base with pride in his stance and his head held high with the metal container firmly in his beak.
They strode through the halls until a voice sounded over the loudspeakers. "Clint and Fuvlus report to my office immediately!"
It was Fury and Fulvus's heart skipped a beat at the mention of his name. Clint smiled a bit since he didn't think that it was a big deal. "Duty calls. I think that Fury is anxious to see that." He pointed to the container in Fulvus's mouth and Fulvus rolled his tongue a bit over it, getting used to the smell.
Fulvus and Clint made their way over to where they thought Fury's office was. Fulvus had never been there and neither had Clint but they asked around and others pointed them in the right direction. One agent in particular was exceptionally helpful.
"Fury? Yeah, he's right down the hall on the right," he answered with a bright smile. When he looked at the container that Fulvus was holding he seemed to glow. "You are the agents who managed to find that?! You must be well trained."
"First mission," confessed Clint as he crossed his arms. "Now too bad I suppose."
The agent shook his head madly. "For my first mission I had to ask an agent for her number. That must have been a lot harder. I'm quite impressed."
Fulvus dipped his head. "It was a team effort," he mumbled around the container in his mouth.
The agent stretched out a hand and shook Clint's hand. "Coulson, Agent Coulsin."
Clint gave a side smile. "Clint Barton." He waved a hand over to Fulvus and Fulvus lifted his head a bit. "And this is Fulvus. He did most of the work."
Fulvus shook his head. "It wasn't all me. It was a team effort. I was just the one who found whatever this is."
Agent Coulson lowered down and Fulvus ruffled his feathers to warn him not to come too close. He extended a hand to shake and Fulvus lifted his large paw with extremely long talons like an eagle. He shook Coulson's hand and Coulson's touched his talons with round eyes.
"Never met a griffin before," asked Clint once he saw that Fulvus was uncomfortable.
Coulson drew back and shook his head. "Sorry. Your'e just very interesting."
Fulvus smiled a bit. Interesting was a lot better than being called a freak. "Thank you," he mumbled before he looked to Clint, praying that he would get him out of this situation before Coulson wanted to get any closer to him.
"Come on," offered Clint as he ran a hand along Fulvus's wing tip. "We better get over to Fury before he thinks that we can't even make it to his office. Thank you, Coulson."
Coulson stood upward and gave a rigid nod as he watched them leave. Fulvus let out a breath of relief and Clint just chuckled in amusement. They found Fury's office relatively easily after that and Fulvus forced Clint to go in first.
He obeyed and pushed the door open after knocking and not receiving an answer. "Fury," wondered Clint as he looked around in the darkness.
Fulvus followed and shut the door. He was tempted to turn the lights on but he decided against it. He crept forward with the substance still pressed between his beak.
"I'm a bit surprised that you did so well," broke in Fury's voice as he pushed forward in the darkness before turning on a small desk light. "This was an advanced mission, not mention your first one."
Clint chuckled as he stood a bit proudly. "Yeah, we did exactly what you asked for, Fury. We don't know why you want this but we got it."
Fury motioned a hand for Fulvus. Fulvus looked like he wanted to argue but he didn't. He pushed forward and looked up at Fury, still clutching the container. "What is it," he mumbled painfully.
Fury raised an eyebrow. "What is what?"
"This," repeated Fulvus as he set the container down between his talons. "I want to know what it is and why it was easy for me, just me, to find it."
Fury crossed his arms. "Just give it here, Fulvus."
Fulvus shook his head as he lowered his head toward his talon to keep the container hidden. "I want to know," he repeated as fury lit in his eyes.
Fury grumbled before he looked to Clint. Clint kneeled down and looked at the container. Fulvus growled a bit, his hackles rising. Clint stretched out a hand and rested it on Fulvus's shoulder. "Let it go. We'll talk about this later but we can't do anything with it. Let Fury have it."
Fulvus grumbled before he lowered his head and picked the container up. He then dropped it on Fury's desk, takin ga step back and allowing his feathers to puff out in anger. He clearly didn't approve of this but he was going to listen to Clint.
Fury took the substance and placed it behind him. Fury then sat down and motioned to them to sit down. Clint sat on a chair and Fulvus looked at his chair. He leaped on it and sat down harshly with his tail curled around his paws. He didn't particularly care for Fury at this moment but maybe if he got Fury to trust him more then he would finally know what was in the container.
Fury looked over to both of them with just one eye. "I made you a promise, Barton, do you remember what it was?"
Clint thought for a moment. "That I might be able to have a normal life?"'
Fury nodded before he smiled a bit. "There is a Halloween party tonight with all of the agents. I think that you two should go," Fury offered.
Fulvus had never heard of Halloween before. "What is Halloween," asked Fulvus as he tilted his head in confusion. "And why do you have a party for it?"
Clint turned to look at Fulvus. "Halloween is when you dress up in a costume into something that you're not and usually kids go from door to door to get candy."
"Here we just have a party so that agents can get to know each other," Fury broke in. "I think that it's a good idea for you both to go and mingle with other agents."
Fulvus wasn't sure that it was a great idea. First off what would he dress up as? He was a griffin, not a human. Also, were there other agents that were maybe a little like him.
Clint sighed before he looked over to Fulvus. "We'll see. Fulvus and I need to discuss this."
Fury sat back and looked back at them. "I highly suggest that you two go. I'm sure you'll both have a great time," he called as the two left his office.
"Dressing up doesn't really sound like my thing," argued Fulvus as he shook his head a bit. "I mean, what could I even be?"
Clint smiled. "It really doesn't matter what you dress up as. It's just to have fun for a night and I think that we deserve a night of peace."
Fulvus shrugged a bit and he looked at his feet. "Well, okay, but you're going to have to help me find a costume and make sure that I don't look like a griffin."
"I'll try my best," offered Clint as he strode back toward his room. "But I have to figure out what I'm going to dress up at."
Fulvus had heard a story from Albus about someone that he thought that Clint should be. "I think that's one thing that we don't have to worry about."
