Meda lifted her head as she laid on Natasha's bed, looking outside through the window. She sighed heavily, remembering how it looked to be watching Mistro and Mightra playing and wrestling in the warm grasses. She even imagined how it would be like to see Ender, the tiniest kit, playing with his littermates.
"Meda, Meda, are you okay?"
Meda turned her head and looked to see Natasha. She inhaled through her nostrils and licked her chomps. "Natasha, how are you?"
Natasha shook her head as she continued forward. "Let's not talk about me. Let's talk about you," she offered as she sat on her bed next to Meda.
Meda didn't particularly want to talk but she knew that Natasha wanted to. "What do you want to talk about," wondered Meda as she laid her head back on her paws.
Natasha looked at her blankly. "I want you to talk about your kits. I'm hoping once you do you'll feel better," she suggested as she plastered a fake smile on her face.
Meda knew that it wouldn't help but Natasha seemed interested so it was worth speaking about. "Mistro was always the caring older brother. He looked after Mightra with a heart of gold. He'd do anything for her. Mightra could be feisty when she wanted to and was always questioning things. Ender, I don't know. I didn't know him for very long but even so I could feel the strength that he didn't possess yet. He was small, innocent, and kind."
Natasha stroked Meda from the head all the way to her tail tip. "You did a fine job raising them for the time that you had. I'm sure that one day you'll all reunite."
Meda squeezed her eyes shut. "That's what I pray for everyday," she confessed, her voice hoarse.
There was suddenly a knock at the door and both their heads lifted. It was the headmistress. She rarely came to the students' rooms personally. This had to be important. "It's time for both of your assessments."
This took Meda off guard. "What do you mean assessment?"
The women just smiled a smile that Made Meda cringe and her bones quake. "Natasha is eighteen and you are ready for it. It's time for you to be a true member of our cause."
Meda looked up to Natasha with fear in her eyes. "W-What do I have to do," she stammered, wondering if she would have to kill someone.
"Follow me and find out," answered the headmistress in a voice that made Meda hiss, despite herself.
Natasha tried to calm her down with a quick squeeze of her shoulder but it did nothing. Meda reluctantly followed her with Natasha bringing up the rear. She brought the two into a room and a large man came out. "Take him down. Both of you, together."
Meda didn't think it would be that difficult but Natasha had different ideas. She didn't trust the headmistress. Meda launched herself first but it wasn't long before she felt the jolt. Shocks were sent through her body at an alarming rate and she crumpled to the ground, pawing at it madly.
"Ah! Stop," cried out Meda as she turned to face the headmistress with saliva dripping from her bared fangs. "Stop doing this to me!"
"You have broken some very important rules, Meda," pointed out the headmistress as she crossed her arms. However, she continued to press the button harder and harder. Meda's whole body felt like it was about to explode or it was being eaten from the inside out.
Natasha had stopped fighting the man and he was gently nudging her to fight some more. Natasha quickly refused and the headmistress nodded. The man thrust a bag over her neck and she thrashed around as he picked her up with almost no effort. They escaped through a room and Meda tried to follow but the pain was too much.
