Day Seven

Mario traveled to higher ground so that he could have a better view of the Arena.

Freddy finally woke up from his extended slumber. When he looked down, he noticed that Sonic had written "You snooze, you lose!" on his chest with permanent marker. This did not make Freddy happy.

Lucio spent the whole day trying to find a secret exit or any real way out of the Arena. Unfortunately, the place seemed to be sealed tight. Whoever was keeping them there definitely did NOT want them to escape.

Sonic received a letter from his friends back home. By reading through it, he finally realized just what he had done. There was innocent blood on his hands, blood that he could never wash off.

Johnny Gat found Sonic walking towards the lake. He hid, trying his best to get a good aim at the hedgehog's head. However, he didn't expect what happened next.

Sonic ran forward and jumped into the lake.

There were a few minutes when the only sound that could be heard was that of air bubbles popping as they reached the surface of the lake. Eventually, that went quiet too.

After a moment of silent contemplation, Gat sighed.

"Oh, for fuck's sake!"

He ran towards the body of water and swan-dived in after him. Johnny looked around frantically until he saw a familiar blue quill.

With tremendous effort, he pulled the unconscious hedgehog up to the edge of the lake. Gat slammed his hands down upon the creature's chest, trying with all his might to get him to start breathing again.

Finally, Sonic's eyes opened wide as he coughed/vomited up a surprising amount of water. When he could finally breathe again, he looked up at Johnny.

"You... You saved me. But, we're enemies?"

Gat shook his head.

"Look, kid. I dunno what kinda stuff is going on in that big noggin of yours, but trust me, this ain't the way out. Whatever your problems are, they're gonna get much worse down there."

He pointed down at the ground.

"Trust me. I've been there. It ain't pretty."

Sonic slowly lifted himself up into a sitting position.

"But... I killed so many people. How can I ever forgive myself?"

Gat tried his best to refrain from rolling his eyes.

"That's what this is about? Look, you don't really have a choice here. It's kill or be killed. The fact that you're in this mess ain't your fault. The best thing you can do right now is just try and survive for a bit longer. An' if someone tries to get in your way, you kick their ass."

Johnny Gat got back up to his feet and headed towards dry land. Sonic sat there on the beach for a while, processing everything he just heard.
