-your mind might forget it for a little while but never the heart
After settling in I dive into my bed until sleep slowly take over my body and now it's 12 midnight and my stomach is growling in hunger.
I open the door and saw Ross door half open but couldn't see anything inside aside to his LED computer set up. Maybe he's on game so I went downstairs unto the kitchen but heard rummaging sound along the way "Hey brother please tell me you didn't forget to make dinner! I'm starving..."
The back is looking too familiar but it isn't Ross. It belongs to someone that is making my heart racing at the moment.
Jace turned around, she's holding a slice of pizza and share her surprise chinky eye. Neither of us is expecting to see each other out of the blue.
But as her usual demeanor, cold shoulder is her default.
"I ordered pizza" gesturing the box in the counter
It's tempting but I rather not "Where's Ross?"
She leaned her back against the countertop, bites her pizza which makes my attention divided from wanting to grab a slice to better not accept anything from her "He told me that he's gonna stay to Cassy for awhile"
It makes my lip parted in shock that he's dating Jace cousin and also in question of "So you just casually barge here?"
"Not actually. I have keys and stayed here however and whenever I want" she reply "But. I didn't know you're here Reeses" she used that stupid nickname.
It has been two years but she still haven't change, still dress cooly as if she wants to attract girls here and then. Has that long highlighted hair that accentuates her super tall and slim figure.
And remind myself to get out because sharing room with her is suffocating "I thought you're hungry?"
I walk straight into the door with a determination to have eat out instead. Car is not an option, of course my sweet brother has it.
Speaking of that, I didn't know that he date Cassy? So many things happened when I was out.
Our street is quite safe. The houses are still the same, some had renovation and others looking old. My friends house are just nearby, but I don't plan to see them any sooner.
I can't say that I'm holding a grudge to what they did way back before but it's safe to say that I'm not that specifically okay.
As I expected Mr. Hanse old diner is still here with the LED flashing, a view of late comer customers that mostly are teenagers hanging out.
I push the glass door and the familiar sound of greetings from Mr. Hanse echoed the room "Reese?" He says in big fatherly smile which I immediately run for a warm hug "How are you little girl?" He checks on my height and playfully say "I guess not so little anymore"
"I'm fine. Kinda into this red bloody hair but overall everything is fine. Anyway, how's Missis Hanse?" I say looking behind his shoulder, she's always at the back either experimenting new dishes or baking her favorite peach pie.
His face becomes saddened, there were tears in the corner of his eyes, enough reason to know what happened. Mr. And Mrs. Hanse, treats everyone like their grandchildren because unfortunately they never had one. Mrs. Hanse can't bare a child but they stick to each other through thick and thin and now he's all alone. I can't imagine Mr. Hanse sorrow.
He serves me my favorite double strawberry milkshake with caramel drizzle, the taste is still breathtaking, looking around the stall the feeling is becoming nostalgic.
So many memories in this diner.
"Are you back for good?" Mr. Hanse enquire
I heaved a sighed before nodding then taking a bite to my waffle "We miss you Reeses" his voice is so sincere that staring to his face is making my heart melt but hearing the stupid name given by Jace making me partly annoyed.
"I miss here too" I murmured
His chocolate eyes diverted behind my shoulder and produces another warm greetings "Hi Jace" her name makes every nerve in my brain alarmed.
To the corner of my eyes I saw her standing next to me and now facing me "I knew you'll be here"
Mr. Hanse left us which makes me a little bit irritated for leaving me with Jace and her intimidating eyes.
"Why are you here?" I ask dismissively
"Your brother will be pissed if I let you wander around in the middle of the night" of course. Her and my brother treats each other more than best friend to the point that people mistaken them as siblings and I was in friend position.
I look into her eyes but all I can see is the flashback. My feelings, my distraught heart and all the confusion she gave making the sleeping anger I had for her ignited "I'm not a kid" I flatly retorts.
"I know but your height is a kid size" I almost forgot how she always picked on me.
The hell she acts like we could be normal.
Jace softly chuckle after rolling my eyes in annoyance, she always find it funny rather than scaring.
"Hey Jace!" We both tilted our head towards the voice and finding Callie cheerful smile for Jace but it slowly turned to nothingness after realizing that I'm existing right here "Hi Reese" he says and next to her is Jules looking like I'm not that welcome, very opposite to what Mr. Hanse said.
Jules ended our friendship from the day she sided with Zoey, Jace ex girlfriend. I mean of course she will always choose her sister Zoey over me.
