Halloween was coming to Paradise Island, and all the engines were excited.

Edward said he had an excellent ghost story to tell them that night.

Although, two engines were absent for certain reasons.

Gordon, after his experience with Choo-Choo Charles, and Spencer, who was stuck on the midnight local train. And he was not happy about it.

The coaches he had to use were small, single compartment, and ran on axels.

"Branchline Coaches," he sneered while waiting for the signal, "Why must I pull such little box vans! I deserve proper coaches!!"

The coaches were about to give Spencer a piece of their minds, but a voice said, "They are real coaches., even if they don't look like it to you."

From behind Spencer, came a red engine, who stopped beside him. It looked in such disrepair, and was covered in grime and dust. It also had a single coach behind him.

"Coaches come in many shapes and sizes," said the engine, "You wouldn't like me calling you a silver snake, would you?"

Spencer let off steam, "NO!! I WOULDN'T!! I'M GRESLEY'S GREATEST DESIGN!! I SHOULD BE PULLING EXPRESS TRAINS, INSTEAD, I'M STUCK PULLING THESE CATTLE TRUCKS-"

"Coaches!" snapped the red engine.

"-Whatever, while Gordon and some dirty diesels pull the express!"

Just then, Bear came up with a goods train, and sneered, "What do you mean dirty diesels!?"

Spencer then said, "I'm sorry Bear. I've just been tired of being on local trains. I wish for a nice long run."

"Be thankful you even have coaches to pull at all," said the red engine, "Because there is something I should tell you. It happened long ago, on Sodor."

1916.....

The North Western Railway had just been formed, and the first two engines, Thomas and Edward, were too small to make the whole journey from Knapford to Vicarstown on time.
