3rd Person's POV:
Kaitlyn Ka entered the automatic sliding doors of the hospital she knew rather well. The time was 8.46am, around the usual time she came here. Kaitlyn spied the receptionist desk and waltzed up to it, there were two people in front of her in line. She tapped her arm as she crossed them over her chest in habit of waiting.
The first person was soon escorted away by a staff member whom was taking him to visit his unwell mother. The next person stepped up to the receptionist, handing in their ID and asking to visit a sibling. The woman at the desk gave a nod of approval, giving the person a room number and they walked away to the elevator with an escort. Kaitlyn lowered her arms and eyed the woman.
"Hi there. My name is Kaitlyn Ka and I'm here to see Dylan Lenivy. He's in room 94."
She greeted, handing over her ID. The receptionist took it in her hand, tapping her acrilic nails on the desk space beside her. And looked up Dylan's visitor schedule.
"Yes, yes."
She responded, handing back the card before giving a thumbs up.
"Use the left elevator."
Kaitlyn nodded, heading towards the indicated elevator as she slid her card back into her wallet which she placed into her shoulder bag. As she approached and pressed the down arrow button beside the doors, a staff member eyed her.
"You're Kaitlyn Ka, right?"
He asked through curiosity, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes. My friend, Dylan Lenivy is a current patient here."
She nodded, fiddling with the strap of her bag as she waited for the elevator.
"Ahh, yes. You come here quite frequently to visit him, don't you?"
The guy asked.
"Yeah. Everyday actually."
Kaitlyn confirmed as the elevator chimed, the doors sliding open.
"So, you guys are quite close then I imagine?"
The man asked, stepping in the elevator beside her as she selected the button of the floor Dylan's room was on.
"Yup. But don't get the wrong idea, we are Platonic with a capital P."
Kaitlyn stated with a small eye roll.
"Yup, so, you are some of the counselors from that incident at Hacketts Quarry?"
The guy inquired.
Kaitlyn shuddered at the name.
"Yeah, I guess. But I don't really want to talk about it. We didn't exactly have 'good memories' from that horrid place."
She said, the elevator coming to a halt.
"Hold up. Your friend is the one who lost his hand, the one that's still in a coma, right?"
The guy didn't mean to come off as rude but Kaitlyn was growing rather bothered by his constant questions, especially personal ones that were none of his business, as they exited the elevator.
"Yeah."
Kaitlyn answered placidly before continuing down the corridor, eyeing all the digits above the rows of doors.
"Gotcha. Alright, have fun with your visit."
The guy said, stopping at a door.
"Yeah.."
Kaitlyn said before the guy entered his room and Kaitlyn continued walking, heaving a sigh of relief.
"I don't think 'have fun' is a very appropriate thing to say.."
Kaitlyn grumbled under her breath as her eyes still traveled over the labels.
She stopped when she read the selected one she was looking for. Room 94. Kaitlyn inhaled before reaching for the handle and swinging open the door, seeing Dylan's unconscious body where it lay on the hospital bed while tubes were taped to his nose and one injected into his arm while a heartbeat monitor beeped beside the bed.Kaitlyn sighed, she didn't know what she was expecting, but she had hope that maybe he would've been awake. She pulled a chair up to the side of the bed from the corner, leaning forward and clasping her hands together on her lap.
"Hey Dyl."
She spoke.
"How's it going? Like- do you have any signs of waking up yet? Oh Lord. I sound pathetic. But I guess I just wish you were here. But like- awake. I miss you dude. If you were here right now you'd probably say something like; Jeez Kaitlyn, don't sound so sad, it's not like I'm dying. Never knew you'd miss me so much, you really must care about me."
Kaitlyn let out a small chuckle before her gaze falling back to Dylan's emotionless face. Her eyebrows knitted together.
"Please wake up. I don't care if it's sometime soon or in the next few weeks..just- show me you're actually not going to stay asleep forever. Sleeping Beauty."
She eyed his stub where his left hand once was, it had fully healed, though a long scar was positioned down the side of it where they would've had to stitch up the wound.
Kaitlyn reached over to straighten the sheets that lay over Dylan's stiff body.
"That better?"
She smiled slightly before whipping out her phone from her jean pocket. She entered her passkey before opening messages to see if she'd received any new ones.
Kaitlyn's finger stopped as she scrolled through her contacts, seeing one bolded: Ry-Guy: Hey Kaitlyn. I know you usually..
Kaitlyn pressed on Ryan's contact, her eyes flicking over the message.Ry-Guy: Hey Kaitlyn, I know you usually visit Dylan everyday around this time. And I was wondering how he is..
Does he have any signs of waking up?Kaitlyn was taken aback by the message, this was the first time Ryan had asked sincerely how Dylan was doing.
She pressed on the typing bar and her fingers danced over the keypad.KaitKat: Hey Ryan. Sadly Dylan has not woken up yet. Why don't you come visit? You're the only one of us Counselors who hasn't visited him yet. Scared he's gonna bite?
Kaitlyn tried to add a little humor as she sent the text, soon her phone buzzed with a reply.
Ry-Guy: I dunno. And no, I'm not scared he's going to bite. I guess I just feel a bit guilty that's all. And I can't leave my sister.
KaitKat: Why do you feel guilty? It isn't your fault what happened to him. Get Laura to look after your sister. she doesn't live that far away does she? Ryan. It's been 4 months. You know Dylan would want you to visit him. Get over yourself and come visit your sleeping beauty.
Kaitlyn wondered if she were being too harsh as she saw read pop up under her message. She thought she went too far and wasn't expecting Ryan to reply, but strangely enough, he did.
Ry-Guy: Y'know what? Fine. I'll be on my way in about 20 minutes..
Kaitlyn stared in shock at his response.
Ryan was actually coming!?
