Mariah bopped her head as she listened to the song she had just recorded. She planned to drop it within the next few weeks and was excited for her fans to hear it. With her growing fanbase, she was more determined than ever. Everything had to be perfect for them.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't want you to myself when you look me in my eyes and tell me that it's mine. Made them sacrifices; spent 40 days and 40 nights withdrawing from ecstasy. Gave you what was left of me. Hard enough learning to let you go. Can't imagine teaching someone else how," Mariah quietly sang along to the song.
Her producer paused the song and swung around in his chair. "We got a hit!"
"You think so?" Mariah asked, looking at Morgan. Her sister simply nodded before giving a thumbs up. "Post a snippet on Instagram."
Mariah got up from the leather sofa to stand near the mixing table. She pressed play on the keyboard before recording a video for her million Instagram followers. Only recording about five seconds of the song, she posted it with no caption. "They gon love this."
"As they should," Morgan said. She worked as her sister's manager when she wasn't busy doing other things. Since Mariah was getting bigger and gaining more traction, she wanted her sister to get a manager who could take her to the next level. "So, I was thinking since you're blowing up, we can pay for you to get a team. Like a manager, a publicist, all that."
Mariah looked at her sister like she was crazy. Morgan had been her manager since she first started. They got this far together and could go even further since they had each other. "Girl, no. You're my manager. Fuck I need somebody else for?"
"And I love being your manager, but you need someone who can elevate you to the next level. Aya knows some people who can help you." Morgan graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism, so she knew enough to help Mariah become a rising artist, but Morgan knew her sister needed some people who had experience working with bigger clients.
Mariah sighed. Her sister did have a point, and she hated that. She just wasn't fond of the idea of change itself. If something wasn't broken, why fix it? "Fine. But they have to be on top of their shit."
Morgan nodded, shooting a text to Ayame. She waited a few moments for a reply, then looked back up at her sister. "She said she might have a publicist for you. She said they're one of the best in Atlanta, actually."
"They better be if they wanna get hired by me," Mariah said, packing her purse since her studio session was coming to an end. She was a perfectionist, so whoever she employed had to be at the top of their game. "What are you doing after this?"
"Shit, I'm going to take a nap." Another reason Morgan wanted to get Mariah a team: she was up at outrageous hours helping her sister with things, then on top of that, she had her own job to clock in for. "What about you? Are you going with Brandon?"
Brandon and Mariah have been dating for a few years now. She met him shortly after she dropped out of college and relocated to Atlanta. They began dating a few months after they met. Her friends like to say she falls in love too quickly, but Mariah knows what she wants. Brandon wasn't her first serious relationship, and they were going strong so Mariah believed he was the one.
