Mariah looked down at her phone as it rang. She sighed when she saw the contact photo she had taken with the woman who was calling. It was a picture they snapped on a late-night run to Cookout. Mariah loved the picture because they were unpretentious; they both wore their bonnets-Mariah's pink and Thaïs' black, Thai wore her prescription glasses which amazed Mariah for some reason. The myopic woman either always had contacts in or just simply left her glasses at home. She was already stunning, but the eyewear added some oomph.

She turned the ringer off before taking a shot of 1942. It had been one week since the incident occurred. The incident that both Mariah and Thaïs knew was bound to happen sooner or later. Mariah just wished it hadn't happened under the circumstances in which they did. She was now filled with regret and uncertainty about her relationship with Thaïs.

The two had not spoken since Mariah's birthday party, primarily due to Mariah ignoring every single one of Thaïs' calls and texts. Thaïs wanted to let her know she didn't feel any differently towards her, and that they were still good. Mariah just couldn't bring herself to pick up the phone and contact her because of her own embarrassment.

Mariah devoted her free time to reflect, where she acknowledged her feelings for Thaïs, realizing they surpassed mere friendship. However, voicing these feelings remained a daunting decision. She grappled with the potential reactions of those around her: her homophobic father, her apathetic mother, and her nosy yet supportive fans. Although she didn't feel compelled to disclose her feelings to them, she knew their curiosity might lead to inadvertent revelations.

Following her mother's advice to pursue happiness, Mariah found peace in Thaïs's company. Their bond was something she cherished, and Mariah feared anything jeopardizing it. She was certain Thaïs would offer unwavering support if she confided in her, yet she hesitated to reach out.

Complicating matters, Mariah had recently ended her relationship with Brandon, explaining that she had emotionally moved on. The emergence of a new, captivating interest only intensified her internal confusion.

Mariah felt suffocated in her thoughts since she believed there was nobody she could speak to about the situation. Usually, Morgan would have known by now, but she didn't know if she wanted to tell her about the situation just yet. Though hesitant initially, Mariah realized it was only a matter of time before Aya caught wind of the situation.

Morgan pushed Mariah's front door open and headed straight to the kitchen. The younger sister jumped through her skin, not expecting any visitors today. Morgan noticed the half-drunken tequila bottle and shot glass on the kitchen island and turned to her little sister. "We day drinking now? Bitch, are you stressed?"

Mariah rolled her eyes, pushing past her to head to the living room. She waited until Morgan sat down before she began speaking. "I have to tell you something," Mariah said lowly, stroking Miso's fur. There was a hint of sadness in her voice, which Morgan immediately noticed.
