Mariah and Thaïs quietly shuffled around Mariah's large bedroom as they got ready for tonight's dinner. The two had spent the whole day together, mostly shopping for things Thaïs would like. As much as Thaïs wanted to, Mariah wouldn't let her lift a finger to pay for anything. After hours of shopping, the two decided to return home to take a nap.
Thaïs made her way to the bathroom, running a paddle brush through her hair, which laid perfectly flat since she'd gotten a silk press the day before. She smoothed the few flyaways she had before pulling her hair to rest on either side of her shoulder. Thaïs couldn't help but admire the reflection staring back at her in the mirror as she smoothed the final stray piece of hair. Finishing up, she walked into the bedroom, where Mariah scoured through her closet in search of a dress.
"You're expensive, you know that?" Mariah said, stepping around the many bags Thaïs brought inside earlier today. Mariah didn't know how much she spent today; she simply swiped her card at each store and went on her way. It had to be expensive, being that there were two Chanel shopping bags in front of her. She gently kicked them underneath the shelf as she continued her search for a dress.
Though she was grateful for Mariah and her willingness to go out of her way to spoil her, Thaïs couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at her, despite Mariah's insistence that it didn't matter. She even made a mental note of the items she would go back and purchase on her own. Thaïs made her way to the closet, leaning against the doorframe. "So I've been told," she laughed as she watched Mariah rummage through her closet. "Do you casually spend this much on your friends for their birthdays?"
"Just the ones that I really, really love," Mariah murmured, pulling two dresses from the rack. In one hand was a green mini dress detailed with yellow spirals; in the other was a belted black leather dress. She held up each before turning to Thaïs. "Which one?"
"Isn't that dress mine?" She motioned towards the black dress. Mariah shrugged before Thaïs continued, "Wear the green one. It's cute, and I'm already wearing black."
Mariah chuckled softly at Thaïs' observation, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "You left it here a few months ago. I want to wear some of your stuff on tour," she said, setting the black dress in its original place before turning her attention to the vibrant, green dress. "I put all of your clothes in a special place in my closet."
"You're basically asking me to move in." Thaïs teased, her tone light and playful as she glanced at the array of clothes she had accumulated in Mariah's closet over time.
"Maybe I am. You have more shit in here than me," Mariah said, observing the section of black articles of clothing as she slipped into her dress of the night. "Although, your fashion choices make my closet look depressing. Do you only wear black?"
Thaïs chuckled, twirling a strand of her sleek hair around her finger. "Black is just so versatile; goes with everything," she replied with a playful smirk, slipping into a pair of black heels to match her outfit. "Now please hurry up so we can leave."
