For anyone who is interested; the English essay Y/n's ability is based on. Please remember I wrote this when I was like 14 or 15 aka my writings could've been a lot better if I paid more attention, but I didn't.

_________

Russell's smile was the brightest in the room as he raised the champagne glass. He proudly looked at everyone standing in the hall raising their glasses as well. It was a beautiful night that would end with exiting tragedy that it gave Russell shivers to his very core. "Five, four, three, two..." the guests counted down the seconds to the midnight and to the year 1953. "Happy New year!" echoed even outside the mansion, even the gardener could hear all the people celebrating.

As everyone poured the champagne down to their mouths as the chattering began again. Everyone was quiet on waiting the midnight but now everyone was wishing one another a good year. "Is something wrong young master?" one of he butlers of the mansion came to see Russell, "You look very thoughtful, not a look for someone who usually parties until the early hours of morning", he noted.

Russell was tempted to ask how Thomas could've noticed that in a room full of strangers that are drunk and may do foolishnesses if not careful. How did one see someone as irrelevant him at the moment? Wasn't paying attention to him a waste of his time? Despite using his skills of observing in useless matters such as this one, it always seemed to make Russell feel special.

Russell signed and looked at the people, "I am just wondering do any of them realize this might be their last celebration", he kept his majestic poster listening as the orchestra began to play a new song.

"Such thoughts don't fill people's heads until they're in their 40's or 50's", Thomas answered.

Russell nodded, "Although that is the general belief one shouldn't expect to live that long", with a sign and a nod Thomas left.

Thomas one of the eight staff members Russell had living in the mansion. He was elder man in his early 50's, which made Russell think did he ever think if the current celebration might be his last. Having served his father, Arthur River, and mother, Ophelia River, Thomas has known Russell for his whole life. Thus making Thomas know the kind of person Russell was, what he appreciated and what he would not stand.

Despite Thomas being an elder, the man didn't seem a day over 20 by the way he was able to still move, even though he has done physical job for his whole life. Thomas kept his head high, his wrinkles shadowing his face and white hair shining in light of lamps and candles that were slowly being taken out as the guests got more careless with their surroundings. Russell could see small balding spot on Thomas' head but supposed it was only a part of getting older.

"Mr. River! I must admit, nowadays youth knows how to properly celebrate New Years!" some guest loudly announced.

Russell didn't remember who he was, but didn't care, he was an irrelevant person. "I thank you for the compliment, sir", Russell answered with a polite smile and a slight raise of his glass which was still as full as it was when Thomas poured it for him.

"You know Russell, I knew your father, what a great fella he was", man told wrapping his arm around Russell's shoulders. The man had strong scent of alcohol on him, "And their passing away in a robbery! That must have been so tragic for you... poor boy!" man was now clinging onto Russell's shoulder like he depended on it. And with the pace they were going, the man was not going to be irrelevant soon. Russell observed the man, black suit with a loosen navy blue tie and the shirt had few first buttons open.

"Arne..." a faint voice a woman was heard from the crowd.

The man leaning to Russell reacted to the name, "Britta", he answered. Such odd name with such Nordic pronunciation couldn't be common. The man leaning to him was definitely Arne.
