I returned

Trigger warning(s): Guns, small injury, talking about hurting others

"Should we return to the headquarters?" I asked looking at Evelyn. Though, Akutagawa would be retrieved sooner or later.

"I have not received an invitation to return", Evelyn said in return. I knew that she was in favour of following the rules, including that I should come back when I'm asked to. "But as I see it, the port mafia could use reinforcement". There it was, the exception that was always made for me.

"... How will we leave without causing suspicion?" I asked. That was the part I forgot to think about. I'd be suspicious of we were away too long and it'd be too suspicious if we were seen going to the port mafia's headquarters. Though, one thing that I was extremely proud of was that I had the same ability as Gin when it came to my appearance. The me in the port mafia looked quite different compared to the one working with the agency. My lucky day.

The headquarters were awfully quiet. The guards were standing still not letting out a single whisper as I walked in. That shouldn't have been considered odd, that was the norm, but something did bug me. It could be Akutagawa's disappearance. "Do you think I'm in danger?" I asked Evelyn. She would give me the answer. She would tell why I was feeling off.

Evelyn looked around, "No, you could be the subject of scolding, though".

Scolding, I wondered. I haven't done anything recently... which I now realised might be the reason. I haven't delivered any good information and each time Koyo asked, I would answer that the gaining enough trust was the main mission for now. Maybe it was, or maybe I was just fond of my time at the agency. "That's not too bad... as long as I don't receive a punishment".

...

The black lizard was present without Higuchi. "Where's Higuchi-san?" I asked. You would think she's planning how to save Akutagawa with the others but she wasn't in sight. She didn't go after the enemy on her own, did she? No, that couldn't be, there would be back up and though the headquarters seemed fairly quiet, I doubt anyone went with her if she left. "She's not after Akutagawa-san on her own, is she?"

...

Evelyn was carrying her umbrella again. It was nice to be on a mission on the port mafia's side again. Dozens of black suited men with guns, the black lizard, this was nice. "Let's give them hell", I told Evelyn, "The enemy isn't irrelevant but should be killed in case they try to kill you". My orders are absolute and if someone were to raise their gun at us, they'd die. Very simple. It felt relieving when I was able to give simple orders that were easy to follow instead of those that let the enemy live.

The doors opened. Higuchi was indeed there, bleeding from her leg, she must have been shot. Hirotsu said something that I didn't pay attention to. Bullets were flying from both sides. Evelyn was in middle of this dodging everything and taking out men as soon as one bullet had left their gun that was pointed at us. The men siding with us were careful not to hit Evelyn, in case she would accidentally attack them, a small mistake in my command, which they heard. This world was much simpler, I didn't have to worry about killing the opponent, I didn't need to give out complex orders to ensure my safety and the opponent's, I could do what I was taught to do, kill.

After the rescue mission was complete I returned to the agency. The dorms were quiet as everyone were asleep already. I needed to make up something for tomorrow as an explanation for why I wasn't here until now. I did receive an injury during the rescue mission so I could just say I was checking it at the doctor's. I had scraped my arm quite severely when leaving, I happened to trip and fall down roughly. If nothing, Tachihara would have a good laugh after I left, it wasn't like he dared to laugh while I was there. Evelyn had disinfected my arm and wrapped it. Luckily the fall only ripped few layers of skin and left only parts of it bleeding while the wound altogether was on the bigger size.

"You left your umbrella", Evelyn wasn't carrying it again. It began bothering me only recently. "Why?"

"I do not wish us to be recognised". The same answer as before.

"The agency knows my identity, what's more there to recognise?"

"You believed that it's better to leave identifying factors behind as we occasionally do visit the port mafia and are most likely seen with them", that was an order from Mori, but I was one to tell it to Evelyn. I wonder why a simple black umbrella was something we would be identified of. Of course, there were people like Gin who looked completely different in her civilian attire but I didn't have such radical change.

"True", I was satisfied enough with that. If I came up with more questions I could ask her later. "Anyway, where was Kyoka-chan placed? I assume that the president let her stay".

Evelyn smiled, which wasn't a bad sign for me but for many others, it may be. "With Atsushi-san". It must be that Atsushi didn't know about this or something similar. Oh well, I needed to prepare myself to be woken up by a scream tomorrow morning. Wouldn't be the first or the last time that it happened.
