Chapter 8 - Abandoned

While he was going back to his suite before lunch, Andreas' attention was drawn to noises and voices coming from down the corridor. Intrigued, he approached, and discreetly poked his head through the doorway.
Ben was lying on the couch, visibly unconscious, surrounded by Saul, Farah, and the emergency doctors who were giving him first aid. They had even brought out the stretcher.
The Specialist hid behind the wall to listen to the conversation.

"How much alcohol did he drink?" questioned one of the doctors.

"Two whole bottles, one of whisky, the other of vodka," Saul answered, pointing to the bottles lying on the floor.

"Okay, this is very serious, and since your friend's body isn't used to alcohol, he could have some after-effects," explained the second doctor. "We'll have to take him to the hospital to monitor his condition. Do you know why he suddenly decided to start drinking?"

"His girlfriend," Farah replied immediately. "She was badly burned in the fire in his suite and is still in a specialist clinic, between life and death. Ben feels terrible about this, and he can't stand the fact that the doctors won't let him see her."

"I understand better, in this case he will have to benefit from psychological support, otherwise he might do it again, and that could be even worse."

Andreas walked away, satisfied. He had heard enough, and he knew that now he had the advantage. Luna had always said she didn't want a man with a drinking problem, so if he told her Ben was an alcoholic, she would forget about him for good.
He wanted Luna, he would marry her, and he would become king of Solaria.

In the suite, the doctors put Ben on the stretcher, before taking him outside through the emergency exit, so as not to alarm the students.
Saul and Farah followed them to the ambulance, having quickly packed the overnight bag with pyjamas, clean clothes and toiletries.
The couple watched helplessly as their friend was taken to the hospital.

"I hope it wasn't a mistake to call for help," the mind fairy muttered, walking towards the castle, unsure of herself. "Now everyone might know what happened, and I fear for his career, but also Luna decides to break up with him if she finds out when she wakes up."

Her husband grabbed her by the waist and pulled her to him. Feeling his heartbeat against her breast, Farah relaxed.

"We had no choice, sweetheart, we had to call them, I could never have lived with his death on my conscience, and I know you couldn't either," he comforted her, gently taking her face in his hands as if it were the most precious thing in the world. "Ben is Professor Harvey, and this incident can never deny the quality of his work. As for Luna, it will be explained to her that he got drunk for love, and if she really loves him, she will understand."

His wife smiled, convinced by his reassuring words. She placed her hands on his chest, her gaze mischievous.

"And you, Saul Silva-Dowling, would you die for me?" she asked, whispering.

He moved his hand to the back of the neck of the woman he loved, nodding his head.

"Yes, I would, and not for nothing did I nearly perish in the battle of Aster Dell when I protected you from a deadly Burned One's attack."

His fairy's face suddenly changed, her eyes filled with a dark sadness. She remembered the worst moment of her life, when Saul was lying on a cot in a tent in the pouring rain, dying, with a leg wound and a terrible infection, the putrid smell of which would remain in her nostrils forever.

"Oh, love, don't talk to me about that anymore, I really thought I was losing you, and I couldn't bear it," she admitted, getting closer to him.

This remark hurt him. He was stirring up the past and torturing his wife without meaning to.
He closed his arms around her and his lips went to hers, before cherishing them with a voluptuous kiss.
