A few hours later, after the doctors had finally agreed to give her an ultrasound that revealed the baby was fine, at last, Luna opened her eyes. She seemed both confused and frightened, but her vague memories of the evening, the pain in her intimate area, and Ben's saddened look on his face left no doubt as to what she had experienced.

"Sweetheart, I'm sorry," he apologised, stroking her cheek in shock. "If only I hadn't been distracted, surely I could have prevented this..."

She shook her head slowly, her eyes filled with tears. He was apologising for something he was hardly responsible for, and she felt guilty for having been so naive.

"No Ben, it's all my fault, I've known for a long time what he wanted from me, he harmed you, he tried to break up our relationship and I invited him to Stella's party anyway. I should have known he would try something."

The Queen exhaled loudly. She felt terrible and sullied, so much so that she feared her partner would refuse to touch her after this.
How could her best friend of so many years have done such a thing to her?
The botany professor took her hand and placed a sweet kiss on it.

"Stop feeling guilty, Luna, you couldn't have known he was such a pervert, neither did I," he murmured tenderly. "I love you, my blossom, and I will always be there for you. Always."

She smiled weakly at him, relieved that he was giving her love and presence.

"Thank you, honey, I love you."

He leaned towards her gently and kissed her forehead, before slipping his lips to hers. His fairy passed her arms around his neck, clinging to him and his lips, as if to forget Andreas' assault. They'd been through so much together that had always brought them a little closer, so far as to create a vital bond, and he'd always been her anchor in this world since their accomplice moment in the greenhouse.

"A forensic scientist is coming to examine you to get evidence to convict this scumbag," he warned her in a soft voice, his hand on hers. "I know it will be hard for you, but I'm not leaving you alone."

She nodded, but a sudden shiver of anxiety ran through her body.

"The baby!" she exclaimed, concerned.

The calm and warmth of her lover relaxed her.

"Don't worry, Lu, the baby's fine, the doctors just gave you an ultrasound," he reassured her.

Her heartbeat slowed down a little and she breathed in relief. Their unborn child was fine, that was the main thing, and a few minutes later the forensic scientist came to examine her and take all the necessary samples. It was only Ben's presence that kept her from being overwhelmed by the emotion and pain of having been betrayed.
Only the hand of the man she loved in hers mattered. Together they were stronger than the pain. Andreas had not succeeded in destroying them, ruining their life, only to unite them even more.

The doctors decided to keep the Queen under observation until at least the next day and transferred her to another room in the early hours, where she was given breakfast. Her partner helped her prepare her cheese sandwich and, despite the coffee, she spent the rest of the morning dozing, only to be awakened by a powerful pain pulsing in her lower abdomen.
She was feeling like she was being stabbed in the stomach, and she was in so much pain that she couldn't help but start screaming.

"Luna!" her companion cried, rushing towards her in panic. "What's going on?!"

"I...my stomach hurts so horribly," she stammered, trying to catch her breath, her eyes streaming with tears.

Ben was confused for a moment, not knowing what to do about her distress and pleading look. She needed help, now.
After pressing the red button, he ran to the empty hallway to call for help.

"Quick, somebody get a doctor!"

The Queen, meanwhile, was still writhing in pain, and when no one was coming, he took matters into his own hands, removing the blanket.
Between the fairy's thighs a bloodstain had formed. He knew only too well what was going to happen. The doctor who had done the ultrasound probably hadn't seen that she was going to lose the baby, and all he cared about was reassuring his beloved woman, even though he knew it would hit her. This baby, they wanted him, they had already adopted him, but Andreas had murdered him.

"Sweetie, I'll carry you to the bathroom, is that possible for you?"

Weakened by the pain, she nodded, and he carried her to the bathroom before sitting her on the toilet, holding her down so she wouldn't lose her balance.

"Let go, Luna, I got you," he whispered before kissing her temple, deeply affected.

Professor Harvey had been holding back tears for several hours because it hurt so much to see her in pain.
Jaw clenched, moaning in pain, she exchanged a glance with him that spoke volumes about her sadness. She knew she was on the verge of miscarriage, but with the unfailing support of the man she loved, she knew she would eventually overcome this ordeal.
A violent contraction made her bend over and she felt a viscous liquid flow into the bowl before she was delivered. It was over, she would not start a family with Ben.

"I'm sorry, Ben," she sobbed, broken. "I won't give birth to our child."

He hugged her gently and she leaned her head against his chest, stroking her hair wistfully.

"Don't blame yourself, it's not your fault, and whatever happens, we're a blended family," he comforted her warmly. "You're the best thing that ever happened to me, Luna."

She listened to his kind words, which managed to soothe her a little.
Just then, a nurse and a doctor rushed into the bathroom, alerted by the fairy's screams.

"Your Majesty, are you all right?" the doctor asked, concerned.

This was the last sentence Ben could stand, and he lashed out, annoyed at their lack of responsiveness.

"My companion surely seems to be fine! You misdiagnosed her, she just lost our baby, you weren't even there to help her when she was writhing in pain for several minutes when we had called you!"

As the nurse was busy grooming Luna back to the room, the doctor walked over to Ben, head down.

"Please accept our apologies, Professor Harvey, and our condolences," he said, holding out his hand for them to shake.

But the earth fairy refused. This handshake would not bring the embryo back to life, and the lack of humanity with which she had been treated after what she had been through made him shiver.

"This is unforgivable, our child is dead, Luna could have passed away too, and I can tell you the hospital's reputation will take a hit," Sam and Terra's dad assured him, looking stern.

"Watch your mouth, Harvey," he replied in a more aggressive, irritated tone.

Ben continued to glare at him, looking impassive.

"It will come out anyway, there's no way there's going to be any more victims."

Still angry, the doctor waited until Luna was in the room to check her parameters.

"It's okay, you're discharged from the hospital," he announced in an icy tone.

He left, followed by the nurse, leaving the shocked and inconsolable couple behind, Ben doing his best to reassure the woman he loved.
