Chapter 10 - Admonitions And Manipulation

Ben was taken back to hospital later in the evening, after an hour's stay at the police station. The police had been informed that a patient had escaped from the hospital and had made the connection through his identity papers.
Now he was lying on his bed with Farah, Saul, and his children staring at him with concern.

"Dad, we were so scared after what happened," Sam admitted, still in shock.

The botany teacher winced: he felt bad for having scared them, but he wouldn't have been able to resist the call of the woman he loved.

"I'm sorry, it won't happen again," he apologised, bowing his head.

"I hope so," Saul replied sternly, his arms crossed. "We were worried about you, we were afraid you wouldn't wake up, and then they told us you were not in your room and you were gone, we don't know where!"

His friend's attitude hurt him. Ben was suffering so much from this situation, and the Specialist didn't seem to understand his need to go to the clinic.

"I had to see her, Saul," he said in a very low voice. "When I was in a coma, I heard Luna's voice. She was calling me, and immediately, when I woke up, I went to her. There is a bond between us, I am sure."

Farah placed her hand on his affectionately.

"I understand, Ben, she's very important to you, it's only natural that you felt the need to see her."

His friend sighed as he turned to his children. He loved another woman after their late mother. How did they feel about that? He had never gotten drunk for love of Rose.

"You know, kids, just because I'm in love with Luna doesn't mean I'm drawing a line under the past," he explained, looking sorry. "Your mom will always be my first love and will always remain in my heart."

Terra approached her dad's bed with a smile.

"It's okay, it's normal to fall in love," she reassured him in a soft voice. "By the way, how is Luna?"

At that moment, her dad could not hold back the tears that were drowning his eyes. It hurt that he had not had the permission to talk to her and kiss her. For the past few hours, he had been living a real torture.

"They wouldn't let me in, even though I showed them my identity card," he answered, trying to hide his crying face with his hands. "I managed to sneak into the building, and I saw her through the window of her sterile room. She was lying on the bed, covered in bandages, completely alone. I recognised her by the ring she was wearing. When I went to put on a special suit to get in, the security guards came and stopped me. They forbade me to see her as she was screaming and crying for me to get to her..."

His voice had broken on the last words, he was so moved.
Tenderly, his children hugged him as Farah handed him a tissue, also touched by his words.
He had been forbidden to talk to the love of his life, and even to see how she was doing, which was absolutely inhuman.

"I'm fucking sick of seeing such indifference from the medical staff," Saul grumbled, pacing back and forth in anger. "They've been through this tragedy together and they're being separated."

"Especially that Dad presented his identity card," added Sam, equally indignant.

The mind fairy seemed to think for a moment before turning to her friend.

"Apparently they're doing everything they can to prevent you from getting to her, and they know about the fire," she affirmed. "However, the investigation proved that it was an accident, so it's quite possible that someone decided to break you up by telling them lies about you."
