Chapter 19 LED Candle Light
As Daniel stepped off the elevator his phone lit up in his hand. Daisy's number scrolled across the screen as he declined the call and continued towards Dante's office. He had barely gone a few feet when the phone began to ring again.
"I said I'll call you when I find it," Daniel said impatiently as he picked up the call. "Stop calling me every five mi-"
"Lisen, you cunt," Daisy hissed. Horns blared in the background as her voice competed with all the people on the street. "Gia's in the hospital."
"What?" Daniel increased the volume on his phone to make sure he heard her right.
"Gia is in the hospital," Daisy said again. "I'm on my way to go see her and I know as soon as I see her, her brother is going to ask about the flash drive. So if you could go look inside your ca-"
"Why is she in the hospital?" Daniel asked, not giving a damn about Luca or his stupid flash drive. "What's going on?"
"I don't know," Daisy said. "Just find the flash dri-"
"Which hospital is she in?" Daniel's chest tightened in an unfamiliar way.
"I'll tell you when you send me news of the flash drive," Daisy said.
"Are you trying to bargain for information?" Daniel asked in disbelief. "Tell me where the fuck she is!"
"Listen, you idiot," Daisy growled. "She's probably in the hospital because of what happened last night and now the missing flash drive. Get your ass to the car and look for it. If you don't have it then we need to figure out where she lost it."
"Luca doesn't know she was with me," Daniel said.
"He's suspicious," Daisy clicked her tongue. "Just go find the damn thing."
Daniel didn't say anything else as Daisy hung up the phone. Within seconds, his phone lit up once more with a text message from her. She gave him the hospital's name and told him to meet her there if he found the flash drive.
Daniel stood in the hallway staring at his phone as a pounding headache developed behind his eyes. He pulled up Gia's number and listened to the phone ring several times before Luca picked up.
"Hello?" Luca answered.
Daniel didn't speak. He disconnected the call and turned towards Dante's office. His headache was growing worse by the minute as his heart whined like a little child. He entered the office and forgot what to do for a split second as his heart brian tried to keep up with the overflow of blood. Daniel looked at the older man sitting behind the desk and cleared his throat.
"Morning' sunshine," Dante greeted him. "Bussy night last night?"
"Where's the flash drive," Daniel asked, rubbing his forehead.
"The one you got from the Silvano girl?" Dante arched his brow.
Daniel nodded, "I need it back."
"We're not done with it," Dante said. "Hell, we haven't even opened it yet. It's password protected."
"I need it back," Daniel said once more.
"What's the matter with you?" Dante asked. "You got a hangover or something?"
"No, I'm fine," Daniel lied. "I just need the flash drive. Now."
"Okay, okay," Dante opened a side drawer and pulled out the small flash drive. "Here."
"Thanks," Daniel said as he took it from Dante and turned to leave.
"Danny," Dante's voice stopped as he reached the door.
