Chapter 44

The flight to Florence was short. The only thing that made it unbearable for Gia was the terrible turbulence. She swore they were going to fall out of the sky every time gravity pulled them down or the pilot made a dramatic turn. Daniel had nail marks on his arm to show how awful the flight was for Gia.

When they arrived at the hotel, Gia made sure she spoke to the receptionist and stressed the importance of having two separate rooms. Daniel stood behind her rolling his eyes.

"She's trying her best, Gia," he said to her as the receptionist walked away to see if they had any other rooms available. "How is she supposed to know you're allergic to me?"

"You should have thought of this before," Gia said. "You should have booked two rooms."

"Why would I do that?" Daniel asked. "Why would I shoot myself in the foot like that?"

Gia glared at the small smile on his lips before turning back to the woman who had arrived with some news. Gia smiled at her and prayed she was about to receive some blessings.

"We don't have a separate second room," the lady said. "But we have a family suit with attached bedrooms, a living room, a private balcony, and a kitchen."

"Perfect," Gia smiled. "We'll take it."

"It is slightly more expensive than your honeymoon suit," the woman checked her screen. "Only because we keep this suit reserved to accommodate for large families."

"The price doesn't matter," Gia said. "You can put it under my husband's name."

"That's me," Daniel spoke up from behind. "The husband."

The lady smiled, "May I have your card to keep in file, sir?"

"Of course," Daniel pulled out his wallet and sorted out the rest of the check-in process. Gia ignored him as he made reservations for dinner, cars, and other things she had no interest in doing with him. She wasn't going to stop him from wasting his money, but she hoped he knew he was pouring it all down the drain.

Ten minutes later, the pair was shown to their massive family suit on the top floor of the hotel. It included four bedrooms and three bathrooms, all separate from one another. Gia let Daniel pick his room first before she chose the farthest room from him.

"Really?" Daniel asked when he noticed her heading to the bedroom on the opposite end of the suite.

"You're lucky to be in the same suit as me," Gia said, wheeling her suitcase into the room and then closing the door.

"We need to head to the clinic," Daniel knocked on her door.

"I know," Gia walked back and locked the door.

Kicking off her heels, she pulled a water bottle out of the mini fridge and took a sip. Curiously, she wandered over to the window and pushed the curtains aside to look at the beautiful city before her. It was a glorious sunny day. If things were normal, Gia would have wanted to go out for lunch and then shop until her arms couldn't carry any more bags. She sat by the window watching the people bellow with envious eyes. They probably looked at her sitting high up in her castle and thought her to be so lucky. But she was the unluckiest girl in the whole city. Gia could have sat at the window and watched the people below for hours if she didn't hear Daniel moving around in the room beside her. Curiously, she walked over to the door that attached the two bedrooms together and pulled it open.

"What are you doing?" Gia asked, looking around as Daniel started to unpack his suitcase.

"Settling in," Daniel said.
