After Penelope was petrified, Alax was escorted back to the common room by Professor Snape, his mind racking over what happened the past couple of minutes and to what came of the black book.
He was scared that someone had found it, or worse Madam Pince took it herself and presented it to the headmaster, no doubt that would cause Dumbledore to send for him.
Not only that, he hasn't seen Hermione that much since students were being escorted around the school and given limited free time with the curfew instilled.
He found a chance to meet the trio of Gryffindors one day when they were being escorted to their next class. He lagged behind as Draco was telling a story to their fellow Slytherin's, completely unaware of Alaxandr's slowing pace. More students passed him until he was mixed in with the Gryffindors, most who didn't pay him any mind until he was met with the trio he was seeking out. Hermione, Ron, and Harry stood shoulder to shoulder with him, the trio all having looks of brewing anxiousness that probably went unseen by anyone who wasn't clued in on the trio's worries. Harry was the first one to speak once more, including the Slytherin into their planning.
"Alaxandr, we were wondering if you'd like to help us save the school," Harry half whispered.
"Save the school, just exactly what do you think we can do?" Alax whispered with a confused look.
"Well, with what you and Hermione found out, we know more about the cause of these attacks. More than anyone else so far," Harry said.
"Then why don't we take this to the headmaster and let him deal with it, he is THE Headmaster," Alax said.
"Yes, but..."
Harry paused, unclear how to get this boy to see his point on why they needed to do this.
"Alax, please," Hermione suddenly said, moving close to Alax so she could look him in the eye.
The Slytherin boy sighed and turned to Harry.
"Well, I already helped you so far, and there's no way I'm heading home after just arriving here," Alax said.
The three looked relieved.
"So, where do we start?" Alax said, looking at Harry.
"Hagrid, if he truly was the one who opened the chamber, we have to ask him."
Alax nodded his head.
He knew this was coming, to question the giant himself was the only lead they could go on.
"Very well, let's go," Alax said, resigning himself.
Alaxandr knew what it was like to sneak around at night and use the shadows to hide himself. He often would sneak around his family's manor when he couldn't sleep, always using the time he had to himself during the night to explore his family's home. Now he was doing the same just instead of Prince Manor it was Hogwarts. When Harry had told him they would meet at night he told the short trip to meet them at the entrance hall, a task he thought would be an easy one.
He soon realized that wasn't the case.
He had fought the urge to sleep and leave the snug, cozy comforts of his bed, but he waited to hear the soft snores of Theodore Nott, giving Alax the cue to leave their dorm room unnoticed.
Once he had left the empty chambers of his common room, he was almost met face to face with an unfriendly figure.
One Bloody Baron.
If it wasn't for the sound of the ghost rusty chains, he would have run straight into the bloody ghost in his haste and be caught forsure. What a disappointment that would have been.
