"You look to me, and I look away; though I had been looking"

-Fool by Greta Kline

I stared into the corner of the room as I tapped my pencil on the desk. I just couldn't believe it, what are the odds of him going to the same school as me, and being in my grade? I sighed and looked up at the poetry teacher, whom I learned her name is Miss Maleri, and with a small piece of chalk she was writing down the things we would be learning in class that year on the chalkboard. She spoke in a gentle hushed tone that was still loud enough to be heard at the back of the class, and she tended to say "Darlings" when referring to the students, which I liked. I had written everything down that was on the board in my composition notebook, and now that I had finished, I was left with this awkward tension feeling in my gut that kept tearing at me as I tried to focus.

The bell chipped and the seat screeched as people stood up. I grabbed my bag and put it over my shoulder. I noticed the mystery boy got up as well, and in his hands he was holding "To Kill a Mockingbird". He hadn't noticed me yet, but he was bound to eventually, and so I tried to pass by him quickly to leave the classroom. I hurried over to the door, and as I did, someone bumped into me. "Sorry!" I said as I turned my head over to them. Of course, it had been the mystery boy. Our eyes met.

"No, no, don't apologize. I was the one that bumped into you," He said with an awkward smile. "Sorry, Abby."

He remembered my name? I thought. "Sorry about yesterday by the way. That was really rude of me. My name is Itsuki Imai." He said quietly with a smile, putting his hand out for me. I crossed my arms and turned away with a "hmph".

"I don't forgive that easily." I replied as I walked away.

On the toilet in a bathroom stall, I sat and ate my mayonnaise and baloney sandwich. It was lunch break, and at one point I almost gave up trying to find the girls bathroom. Most people might find it sad that I'm alone in the bathroom eating a soggy sandwich, but honestly, I'm so glad that I'm finally away from people. Today has been terrible since I got here, but I guess I'm used to it by now. I heard the door sundely squeak open. I could tell by the sound of gossip that it was a group of girls. I looked at the space under the stall and noticed 5 pairs of shoes.

"Oh my God Lily, I don't know why you don't just go for him. He definitely likes you and he's so hot," an annoyingly high pitched voice said.

"I know right! You can literally have every guy in this school if you wanted to," I heard another voice say. I had finished my sandwich, but I was quite intrigued by this conversation that I wasn't a part of.

"Oh! What about James? He's cute, and he's always flirting with you."

I heard a scoff come from one of the girls.

"He's always flirting with every girl."

"Yeah, Lily's right." Said the first girl. I opened the bathroom stall and stepped out. Five girls were standing in front of the mirror, one of which was putting on lipstick. The girl who I presumed was Lily, was leaning against the counter with her arms crossed. She had long, dirty blonde hair and a Louis Vuitton purse hanging from her shoulder. The other four shot me a glare of judgment and disgust.

"Look at that ugly cockroach," I heard the girl with the lipstick whisper. The others giggled but Lily glanced at them with an unimpressed look.

"I'm not the one with the full face of makeup," I reply with ease. The girls quickly exchanged looks. "Now please move. The roach needs to wash her hands." I shoved past the girls and turned on the tap, rinsing my hands in the water. I noticed Lily, the leader of them, was staring at me as the others awkwardly looked the opposite way. She smiled at me as I left. Those bitches.
