Dan, Yaz, and the Doctor laughed as they walked back into the TARDIS. They had an eventful day, ending with a party at the local government leader's house.
"Now that was a wonderful day out," Dan said with a grin. "Thank you for the lovely night, as always."
"And thank you for the lovely dance," Yaz teased. Dan had promised he knew how the main dance would go, convincing Yaz to join him at the end of the night. Instead of showing off, they spent the entire song stepping on each other's feet, stumbling around. Yaz and the Doctor got quite a kick out of it.
"I'm telling you, they changed up the moves on me. I do know it, just a different version is all!" he complained.
"I'm just teasing you mate," Yaz laughed again as she looked toward Dan. The Doctor couldn't help but smile as well.
"Ah, sure you are. Either way, I'm heading for an early night's sleep." Dan replied. "G'night ladies." He winked in Yaz's direction before heading back to his room.
Yaz turned toward the Doctor. "I think I'll head out too, need to shower. Let's talk after?" she asked hopefully.
"I'd love that." the Doctor responded. "Give me a shout when you're ready." She watched Yaz leave, then made final adjustments to the console before heading to her own room.
The Doctor's room was a bit of a mess. She wasn't one to keep her space tidy, with all the times they left and came back quickly. She hurriedly tidied while Yaz showered, in case she wanted to visit. The Doctor was hoping they could watch another movie together, but didn't want to set expectations too high and be let down. She changed into blue sweatpants, same color as the normal pants she wore and tossed her coat and braces onto the chair in the corner. Probably best to leave the shirt untucked, she thought to herself. She didn't think people tucked shirts into sweatpants. Kindly, she asked the TARDIS to add a projector to her room, in case that movie did work out. The TARDIS obliged.
"Always the best wingwoman you've been," she said to the TARDIS. "What would I do without you?"
Then she waited, and waited, and waited for what seemed like forever for Yaz to come by. She couldn't wait to see her again.
Despite being exhausted from the long day, Yaz was beyond thrilled to spend time with the Doctor again. They hadn't been able to talk alone since breakfast that morning, and it seemed like an eternity ago. She showered quickly and pulled on a bralette, loose sweater, and sweatpants. Before leaving her room, she pulled her hair back into a loose braid to keep it out of her face.
As she walked into the hall, Yaz couldn't help but smile at the thought of seeing the Doctor again. She approached her door, in awe of the Gallifreyan writing covering it. She wondered to herself what it said. Nervous, she knocked quietly and wrung her hands as she waited for a response.
The Doctor jumped up with excitement when she heard the knock on her door. She opened it with a huge smile, pulling Yaz into a tight hug, and closed the door behind them.
"Doctor, are you wearing sweatpants?" Yaz asked in disbelief. She hadn't ever seen the Doctor in an outfit outside of her normal clothes and a suit.
"Yeah, I've got to be comfortable too ya know." the Doctor replied, though it was fair for Yaz to be shocked, she couldn't remember the last time she wore sweatpants. She pulled away from the hug, keeping Yaz's hands in hers. "What was it you wanted to talk about?" the Doctor raised her eyebrows slightly.
"I didn't have anything in particular," Yaz stammered. She inhaled deeply then continued. "Truth is, I just wanted an excuse to see you."
"I'm glad you made one," the Doctor said, squeezing Yaz's hands. "I was thinking we could watch another movie? Your pick if you'd like."
"Brilliant idea," replied Yaz. She glanced around the room, confusion filling her face. "You haven't got a television though?"
"Oh, you'll love this," the Doctor said, grabbing a remote from the side table and pressing a button. A projector flashed on, lighting up the wall. "Care to join me?" she said, gesturing to her bed. Yaz's face lit up, and the Doctor grabbed her hand, leading her to the bed.
The Doctor sat down, pulling the blanket over her legs, and Yaz followed suit. The warm light of the room dimmed as the Doctor handed Yaz the remote.
"I know one you'll like," Yaz said. She pulled up Frozen 2, confident the Doctor would enjoy it, despite it being a children's movie. "What do you think?" she asked, turning to the Doctor with a smile.
"Oh I've seen the first one!" the Doctor said, proudly. "I loved it. This will be great!"
The movie started, and Yaz moved closer to the Doctor, leaning her head against her, glad to feel the warmth of their bodies together again. The Doctor kissed her head, and intertwined their fingers underneath the blanket, in disbelief of how perfect this night was.
The two women enjoyed each other's company during the movie, occasionally chatting about the plot, and giggling in response to each other's jokes. As the credits rolled, the Doctor switched off the projector leaving the room dark. She slipped her free arm around Yaz's waist, turning to face her and kissing her, gently. Yaz, who had previously been drifting off into sleep, was suddenly very awake. She leaned into the embrace, resting her hand on the outside of the Doctor's thigh.
Yaz carefully shifted her weight to push the Doctor onto her back, adjusting her legs to kneel over her body as they continued to kiss. Surprised, but not upset, she moaned softly when she felt the Doctor's tongue slip past her lips. The Doctor pulled Yaz closer, their bodies meeting completely.
The women broke for air, breathing heavily as they gazed into each other's eyes. Yaz laid her head down on the Doctor's chest. She untangled their still intertwined fingers to guide the Doctor's hand to rest on her back, then rested her own hand just above her breast. They laid together in silence for a moment, chests rising and falling as their breathing slowed.
Yaz listened to the Doctor's heartbeats, mesmerized with their unique sound. "Never heard two heartbeats from the same body before," she whispered.
"You're welcome to listen to mine whenever you'd like," the Doctor flirted.
Yaz lifted her head to look at the Doctor, blushing hard. She kissed her lips gently in response, before laying her head back down. Yaz didn't think she'd ever been more comfortable in someone else's arms. She sighed happily, thanking the universe for putting her here, with a woman as amazing as the Doctor.
The Doctor moved her hand under Yaz's shirt, running her fingers up and down Yaz's back, tracing circles, writing Gallifreyan words across her skin. It didn't take long for Yaz's breathing to slow, and the Doctor realized she had fallen asleep. She pulled the blanket up to cover them both, and wrapped her arms snuggly around Yaz's body before closing her eyes and drifting into sleep herself.
The Doctor opened her eyes, blinking as the lights in her room slowly turned on. Most days, she was grateful that she had programmed the lights to turn on, it was pleasant to wake up that way. Today, she just wanted to stay in bed. Yaz had slipped off her body while they were sleeping, and the Doctor couldn't stop smiling looking at her. The way Yaz's messy hair fell over her face as she slept was quite possibly the cutest thing in the universe, the Doctor decided.
She rolled over, closer to Yaz, and kissed her forehead gently. "Morning beautiful," she whispered. She turned onto her back, and closed her eyes again, hoping to enjoy a few more hours of sleep next to Yaz.
"Where'd you go?" mumbled a very sleepy Yaz, as she moved onto her side, facing the Doctor.
"I thought you were still asleep, I didn't mean to wake ya, sorry."
"Don't apologize silly, I don't mind being woken up by such a beautiful face."
Yaz cuddled into the Doctor's long frame, resting her head on top of her shoulder and closing her eyes once more. The Doctor smiled, moving her arm up to wrap it underneath Yaz's neck, squeezing her shoulder before they both relaxed again.
