Selene was happily humming a random tune that morning when Karl walked inside her home. It had been a day since friendsgiving.

"I know I usually cook blueberry pancakes but Tina ran out- Selene?" Karl asked confused at the sight of his best friend plating some pancakes.

She looked up and smiled at him, "Just in time! Have some breakfast with me Karl." She said as she patted the stool. "Uh...." He trailed but did as told.

"You okay Sel?" he asked. She chuckled and nodded as she placed the plate in front of him. "Woke up early today. Foolish dropped off some pumpkins so I'll be bringing those to Niki in hopes she can teache her pumpkin pie recipe." She said.

Karl nodded and took a bite of the pancakes, "You know the last time you cooked was years ago." He pointed out as she sat across him. She nodded, "I am aware." She said.

He sighed, "Selene I think you're forgetting what's about to happen. May I remind you what happened the last time?" he asked. She looked up at him and tilted her head, "It's just pancakes Karl." She pointed out.

The traveler scoffed, "Is it?" he asked. She hummed and nodded. He rolled his eyes, "So you're telling me this isn't how you're slowly falling for Foolish?" he asked.

Selene accidentally choked on her pancake and covered it up wth a chuckle, "What? Why- Karl come on." She said, trying to play it off. But Karl wasn't buying it, he sighed and placed his fork down.

He looked at her sternly, "Selene, do you have feelings for him?" he asked. From the way he was looking at her, Selene knew she can't lie to him. She sighed in defeat and slowly nodded her head, "Yes..."

This made Karl worry more, "Selene, this is dangerous-" "He makes me happy." She argued. He shook his head, "Sel, that's what you said. You're happy now but then when they are taken away from you, you are left devastated and alone and broken. And I don't want to see that again." He explained and reminded.

Selene couldn't help but feel her heartbreak, "But he never dies. He's confetti." She whispered. Karl frowned at her but nodded, "He is. But didn't he tell you?"

She furrowed her eyebrows, "Tell me what?" she asked. Karl sighed and reached out to hold her hand, "His immortality is temporary. It isn't infinite."

And those words made her heart shatter into realization. And all the relief and happiness she felt was washed away with this truth. She thought they found a loophole, she wished they did but no matter what, XD will always make her suffer. And this time, she would end it now than hurt them both.
