"Well?"
Silence.
"Say something, Ella."
"The hell do you want me to say?" she said, keeping her eyes locked on me.
"Anything, anything at all. Just don't keep it silent, I wanted you to come over for a reason."
She stood silent, staring at me like I was crazy. I didn't know what to say, I just wanted an answer from her, simple yes, I don't want a 'no'.
She was my escape from everything. If she lived with me, I would have her close at all times during the day and night. That was what I wanted, nothing else.
"Ella, get back to work!" screamed a man beside her, I'm guessing that's the boss.
"You know what, no. Fuck off!" she screamed back at him.
'What the fuck is she doing?'
"Excuse me, don't tal—"
"Or what, you'll fire me? Can't do that, I quit. I never liked working here, all the creepy ass co-workers and customers, not forgetting you either!" she yelled out.
All eyes were on her and her boss— well, not her boss anymore apparently. I liked this side of her, it was interesting to see. I still didn't know what made her snap like this out of no where, maybe it was what I said.
I walked behind the counter and grabbed Ella's arm, pulling her out before the guy had anything left to say. We walked through all of the people and out the door.
The doors closed after we left. We walked down a few feet away from the bar and stood against a wall in silence. She was keeping herself calm, trying not to overreact about the situation.
"That was stupid, wasn't it?" she asked, breaking the silence.
"No, it wasn't stupid. You did the right thing there, it seems like you've been dealing with a lot working in there." I reassured her, rubbing my thumb on the back of her hand.
"Thanks, dickhead." she replied with a small smile.
"You're welcome, amore. Go home and rest, we can talk later." I said, letting go of her hand.
She instantly wrapped her arms around me, gripping me tightly. As much as I wanted to push her away, I knew she had a hard enough time just now. I hugged her back until she let go.
"Um, do you mind if I come over later or tomorrow?" she asked hesitantly.
"You can come over whenever you feel, but I still want you to answer my question. Take your time thinking about it."
"I will, thanks. See you later then." she said with a smile, walking back to her car.
I watched her as she unlocked her car and jumped into it. I continued keeping my eye on her until she drove off, taking out a cigarette and lighting it right after she was out of my sight.
'Why would I even ask that?'
I was desperate for her, not anyone else. Being around her brought me joy and comfort, I hate admitting that. I never had that feeling with anyone else, hell, not even with my own brother.
Feeling we're strange to me, I wasn't use to it like this. She wasn't like most of the people I had met throughout the years, she actually listened to me and tired to understand me to the best of her abilities. It was things like those that I appreciated in a person.
The warmth of the sun was soon covered by dark clouds, looks like I should head home now.
I walked over to my car and sat down, dropping the cigarette and stepping on it before closing the car door.
