"don't you know too much already, i'll only hurt you if you let me"

~*~

Aizawa thought back to today afternoon as he made his way back to the main building. Watching the two of them fight over and over made him think. As students they couldn't be anymore different and yet out there on the training ground, there were moments where they seemed equal in ways that seemed absolutely impossible. Purely based on combat ability, at this point in time Kanashii was very far ahead of her classmates, but that was not all too surprising she had gone toe to toe with Pro Heroes and had yet to lose one fight.

He turned the corner to Recovery Girl's office. She was probably still on her way back from the school gates. He had seen her leave with Bakugo to not seem suspicious and Aizawa assumed she would turn the corner and wait till he was gone to make her way back here. One single slither of distrust crept into his mind. She had no reason to run away, as it would only endanger her, but still there was always the possibility that she could.

He reached the door to Recovery Girl's office, he would just sit down and wait for her to have dinner. He opened the door and was ready to just sit down, when he saw her. Not at all paying attention to him, Kanashii sat at the table furthest to the left with a plant in front of her. She was entirely focused on directing her energy through the plant, so she hadn't noticed Aizawa walking in yet.

He was startled to already find her there. She had to have crossed his path at least once, as there was only one way into the main building. He sat across from her watching her hands linger above the plant. Kanashii noticed him sitting down, but barely acknowledged him. Her focus was drawn in completely by the plant that she carefully planned to touch.

Barely moving, she inched closer to the plant, she focused all her energy into her concentration. Almost subconsciously she tried emulating what she had seen from Midoriya today. If she couldn't control the amount of energy she took, then maybe she could still focus on blocking all the paths but one; to make the flow of energy narrow down. Similar to how Midoriya had channelled all his power into just one finger instead of his whole arm.

Upon the moment of impact, as the tip of her finger barely grazed the plant, it died. Turning brown, the few leaves it still had drooped downwards.

She looked up at Aizawa ready to be met with a lingering look of disappointment. His expression was neutral. He wasn't feeling any inkling toward disappointment, in fact it was only natural, that she couldn't muster the control for her quirk when she had been training all day.

"How did you get back here so fast?"

She had taken two minutes and twenty-three seconds. That was hardly fast. She remembered three years ago, she had been assigned her fourth ever target, and after finishing them off, she had only had two minutes and twenty-three seconds to cross the entirety of downtown Kyoto to reach the warp gate. She had been late by six seconds and the Creator was anything but satisfied with her failure. Kanashii could still feel the sting on her cheek that she had felt so often.

She looked at Aizawa. Her expression was different, he noticed. She almost looked sorrowful deeply beneath the blank look in her eyes. She had also cowered a little in her seat. Almost as if she was scared of something. She always appeared like this terrifying entity, like an unshakeable ghost that lingered wordless and soundless in every room she entered. And then moments like this made him realize that she was in fact still a child. Barely sixteen and she had already lived through a hell most children her age would not even think possible.

She started explaining that she had walked with Bakugo just a few meters away from the bus station she knew he walked to and that she turned back to the school grounds when he had no way of seeing her anymore.
