She looked at all the puzzled faces in the room. Nobody really had known what to expect from her and yet the name still came as a surprise. One of them especially struggled to find the connecting piece as to why she had chosen that name in particular. Midnight looked at the girl. Even knowing what she'd ben through, she had to give her the same notes she'd given her classmates.
"Spirit? Like a ghost?" She asked. "Isn't that a little creepy for a hero name?"
The girl didn't answer. She hadn't had many things in life that had been her choice, but she had chosen this. Her eyes wandered from her classmates to Midnight. The teacher was smiling in spite of her words. She didn't want to have the final say in their choices, much rather she liked to think that her guidance would steer them towards the best possible name. She thought about the name Spirit for a moment. Maybe there was a way to take the meaning away from sounding villainous, for her sake.
"Now that I think about it, 'Spirit' can also mean the spirit of life, which taking in consideration your energy based quirk does fit quite well, wouldn't you agree?"
She nodded purely habitually. Truthfully, she hadn't thought about the meaning of the word. The only that had mattered to her was the fact that she had been called Spirit for reasons that existed outside of the Creator's realm. That name alone proved to her that she had the tiniest slither of hope to justify an existence outside of being her creation. Even if she would never hear it come from the one who had given her that fighting chance.
"Great then that settles it." Midnight smiled as Kanashii found her way back to her seat. "Now only Bakugo will have to work on a less violent name."
The boy sat slumped in his chair grumbling about how "Lord Explosion Murder" wasn't too violent at all. His eyes shot up however when she sat beside him. He too had no idea what he had expected her to choose as a name and it wasn't like "Spirit" was way out there. Others in their class had chosen way stupider names and yet he wanted to know where her choice had come from. Maybe if he found that out he could finally make sense about a few things about her.
His thoughts were ripped away from him the moment Midnight dismissed the class and the usual barrage of morons came to their tables.
"I'm so glad you're feeling better, Kanashii."
"Seriously, you gave us half a heart attack out there." Mina jumped up from behind Kirishima. "You were really badass otherwise, though."
The girl looked up at them seeing that Sero and Kaminari were with them.
"If it weren't for that, you probably would have won." Sero chimed in.
"No kidding." Kaminari started laughing wrapping his arms around Bakugo." You would have definitely mopped the floor with Lord Explosion Murder over here."
Not a second passed before Kaminari was roughly pushed away accompanied by a loud scoff.
"Don't fucking touch me, Dunce Face."
The death glare on Bakugo's face could have probably been seen three classrooms over. Until he heard Sero snicker.
"Didn't hear you denying it, though."
Bakugo's burning red eyes shot to Soy Sauce Face within an instant. The others were chuckling and snickering now, too. He glanced at her not knowing what he had expected her face to look like. Maybe he had foolishly assumed she would agree with them and visibly so, but she didn't. Though she had every right to. If he didn't know any better it would have looked like she was even more blank faced than usual, though he would have never thought it possible. He noticed that she looked slightly more at ease than before the festival. So she really had exhausted all her reserves up to that point. He couldn't help but scoff internally at how stupid of her that had been. A sneaky part of his brain wanted to believe that he was part of the reason why she was more at ease now, he knew though, that it wasn't him in particular, but rather the energy she had accessed through him.
