"Join my team!"

"No, please join mine."

All over the arena everybody tried their hardest to make a team. Especially around Bakugo and Todoroki the others clustered in an attempt to form a team. A few had tried the same with Kanashii before realizing that she just ignored them. She wasn't bothered with finding teammates. It didn't matter all that much who she ended up with. Neither did it matter whether she made it to the last round or not. Either way she just needed to see this game through, so she could somehow make it to the stands and foil whatever plan the Creator had.

It was strange though, she hadn't looked the way Kanashii remembered her. Then again, it was probably the smart choice for her not to go around in public with her real face. This way she couldn't be identified as easily. Kanashii's eyes were fixated on the stands. This was the perfect place to stage another incident like the U.S.J. If that was the case then her assistants and possibly even Shigaraki had to be here somewhere. She had no way of knowing that though and jumping to conclusions right now would not only make her inattentive to an actual attack, but it would definitely catch the attention of somebody.

Logically she knew that her best shot was to keep playing along with the festival and maybe alert Aizawa as soon as she was able to. No. She couldn't risk Aizawa having to cover for her. Whatever the Creator had planned for today, she had to deal with it on her own. Anything else was out of the question. She would just have to play along with the festival for now, but no matter what would be thrown at her, now more than before it was imperative that she didn't use her quirk at all in these games. She would not give the Creator the satisfaction to see her use what she had cursed her with.

"Kanashii, right?"

She knew that voice. She looked to the side where it had come from. It was the kid Aizawa had asked to brainwash her into telling the truth. Shinsou Hitoshi. She bore her gaze into his dark purple eyes. His quirk would activate as soon as she spoke, she remembered. At least that's how it had been the last time he had used it. She wondered whether Aizawa had told him something about her, though she doubted that he would be speaking to her so casually if he knew.

She stayed silent. Shinsou took it as a yes. He had expected her to be cautious, she was one of the few that knew his quirk outside of his own class.

"You're not answering." He continued. "That's smart."

She removed her eyes from the boy and looked behind him. Again without as much as reacting to his words. Aoyama and another student from class 1B stood behind him. For a moment Kanashii wondered how he had gotten those two in particular to join him, but then she saw their eyes. Completely white and void of anything remotely close to a thought or emotion, they stared back at her. She should have figured that his brainwashing quirk would come in handy this way.

"Join my team."

He had probably started brainwashing the others when they had answered his albeit bold request. She wouldn't let herself be brainwashed, however. Not anymore. Without replying she stared at Shinsou. The clock ran down behind them as everybody else scrambled to find teams. Kanashii wondered why he wanted her on his team. She had finished in forth place, which wasn't a bad placement, but she hadn't really showcased anything of her quirk and she wasn't planning to.

He sighed. The girl obviously wasn't going to budge, but there was something about her. She didn't seem like the typical wannabe hero, especially not like her very overconfident classmates. He had known that there was something weird going on with her ever since the U.S.J. event. He knew though, that she wouldn't be as easily swept as the other two who were just too caught up in their wannabe hero selves to care about him or his quirk. And she had way more points than him and his other teammates combined, so they would have at least a couple points to fall back on.
