How Peculiar

When you opened your eyes sun shot at you like a gun only making your already hurting head feel worse.

"eeh!" You groaned. You shortly after felt your body to the ground. Where you dying? You opened your eyes again, only to see the most stunning woman. But wait didn't you already know her?

"Are you alright darling" the woman spoke.

"You're pretty" you said laughing a little, and you could've sworn she blushed.

"Dear i think you're concussed..." she said as she studied your face. Wait! That voice...

"OMG!" You said before getting up from the ground and out of her arms. Now this really didn't help your already aching head. You stopped and groaned just as you where about to run.

"Dear... might i help you with that?" She asked. God what was her name?!

"Alma!" You almost yelled as you turned. The woman seemed shocked, not being used to hearing her first name.

"Yes?" She eventually said getting up from where she had knelt down.

"Did i say that out loud" you asked genuinely confused. You blinked a few times clearing up your vision.

"..well yes. Now let me help you to the house" she said gesturing at something behind you. You turned around and there was the same house you had fallen in. Right! That's why your head was hurting.

"But..." you said pointing at the perfectly preserved house and garden.

"You're in my loop darling" she said.

"Loop?" You questioned turning to her. She walked to you and angled her arm for you to link in.

"Will you let me explain?" She asked. You weren't quite sure if you should follow her... but something about her made you link your arm and walk with her.

"This is my loop. Our loop. Me and the children that is" she started to explain.

"Wait wait. Back up! What is a loop? And how many children do you have?" You asked.

"A loop preserves the last 24 hours, reset it daily and the day is yours to live in again." She said making gestures with her hands. A smile tugged at you lips. She was kind...

"Okay?" She asked when you didn't answer.

"Oh, right! Yes, yes." You said snapping out of your trance.

"Right. And i have 11 children. They are quite-" she said before you cut her off.

"ELEVEN!?" You yelled letting go of her arm your jaw dropping to the ground.

"Ye?- oh no! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! I am their Ymbryne!" She said realising why you were so... full of wonder?

"An Ymbryne is like a caretaker. We take care of peculiar children" she added when she realised you probably wouldn't know what an Ymbryne was, from the name alone.

"Okay so you like... adopted them?" You said questioning her statement.

"Well... i guess you could call it that" she said and walked further into the garden.

"Okay... and what did you mean peculiar?" You questioned, again. God, you felt like an idiot.

"Children with special abilities" she said while walking over to a red headed girl sitting under a tree with a blonde.

"Children?" She said and the two girls looked up.

"I want you to meet Y/N." She said pulling you forward.

"Oh my birds!" Said the blonde lighting up with joy.

"Is she peculiar! She must be!" She said excitedly looking back and forth from you and the... Ymbryne, woman... alma? One of those.

"Emma. How about you introduce yourself first?" The Ymbryne woman Alma said.

"Right apologies. I'm Emma, pleasure to meet you." Said the blonde. You waved awkwardly not knowing what to say.

"And i'm Olive" said the redhead giving you her hand to shake. You took it and smiled at the two. Alma grabbed your other wrist giving your shivers.

"GEEZ!" You almost yelled. She quickly retrieved her hand shocked.

"Is everything alright?!" She said concerned, not wanting to have hurt you.

"No, yeah... you're just really cold" you said grabbing her hand again. Emma and Olive exchanged looks. Which of course you didn't see due to Alma pulling you away.

"Anyways..." she said shaking her head.

"This is Millard, that would be Claire. Oh and of course the twins!" She said pointing when ever a new name would be mentioned.

"So... Millard is... floating clothes?" You said turning you head to the woman.

"No of course not. He's invisible" she said like it was the most obvious thing on earth.

"Right..." you said. It wasn't that you didn't believe her. She was quite trustworthy!

"Oh and here we have Horace" she introduced a boy -probably in his teens- wearing a nice suit.

"Delighted to meet you" he said shaking you hand.

"The pleasure is all mine" you said smiling. The two of you soon walked of and once you'd met everyone and Alma had explained everything in the parlor, you just sat there looking at her.

"So... you're saying i'm?"

"Peculiar, yes." She answered your unfinished question.

"And you manipulate time and turn into a bird to watch over all of your children, that are approximately all about a hundred years of age?!" You said.

"...well when you say it like that..." she said making both of you laugh.

"But how come i've never shown any signs of my... what did you call it again?" You asked.

"Peculiarity" she said.

"Right. That" you said.

"Well some aren't as obvious as most. And seeing as i don't know yours it could be anything" she said smiling at you.

"Right... soooo. What you're saying, is that i stay here in all eternity, eat, sleep, drink, do chores and repeat?"

"...well you most certainly don't have to!" She said not wanting to force you.

"And if i'm not quite sure?" You said. The woman seemed to light up at the thought of you even considering to stay.

"Well you could stay for a week or so and decide when ever you feel ready" she said enthusiastically smiling widely at you.

"Oh! I wouldn't want to be a bother!" You said quickly already feeling like you were.

"No! Nonsense. Stay, will you?" She asked.

"I-... sure!" You said smiling. She hugged you and your stomach was doing flips. You shook it of thinking it was probably just because you weren't used to hugging... and even less used to being hugged!

"Wonderful!" She said pulling away.

"I will get a room set for you! And we can introduce you properly at supper!" She said smiling widely.

"That would be nice. Do you need any help cooking?" You asked.

"Can you cook?" She asked.

"Well... i can chop vegetables and fruits and.. anything that doesn't actually involve cooking..." you said looking down.

"Great. You can help with the vegetables" she said, making you look up.

"Thank you." You said shortly.

"...for what if i might ask?" She said confused.

"For making me feeling welcome" you smiled earning one from the taller woman too.
