Chapter Eight

I sprint straight into the dark forest. The crunching of branches under feet is heard, along with the crunching of dead leaves, as I run. I reach my arms wide as I close my eyes for second.

"Wait!" Eren shouts panicked, running after me, but not finding me, "No! It's dangerous, no matter what you say!"

I keep running, as the moon reflects through the canopy of leaves over my head. Breathing in deeply, I slow my pace to an easy jog, catching my breath.

A turquoise pond is feet from where I stand. I slowly walk the perimeter as it shimmers in the luminescent moonlight.

"Get Aspen!" I heard a faint yell of Armin, "He will know where to find her!"

I catch a faint "got it," from one of the other two.

A rock structure is stationed behind the mirror pond. Other rocks would be easy enough to climb, for they have ledges and foot holes. I turn away from the structure for a second.

Scratch

A scraping sound comes from behind the rocks. I stand stock still, not moving a muscle. Slowly, I turn my head to rock structure once again.

My breathing stops. It sounds like clawed footsteps. As I cautiously turn my body fully, my blue, luminescent orbs grow wide in fear.

My blue orbs meet the glowing red eyes of a shadow like object. As my eyes meet the animal, it growls at me.

The sound echoes through the open area I have stepped into. Then I realize something vital.

'Its a trap,' I keep my eyes on the wild animal, 'There must be more nearby- My friends went to get aspen to find me-What about him?'

It growls, it's wolf like features scrunching up. It's black legs bent in a pouncing position. It's front legs, spread apart intimidatingly. brown fur spiked up.

More crunching sounds come from behind me, but at a much faster pace.

"So this is how I'm meant to die, huh?" I mumble to myself, turning side ways my arms outstretched with hands curled into fists, to protect my back side, "Well that's not going to happen, not today."

As the crunching sound gets closer, it sound more like human feet. When I'm certain its human feet, I get back into a defensive position in front of the wild dog.

"Chia!" I hear a sharp yell, breaking through the silence. The wild dog sharply turns his head, sniffing the air. He brings his glowing eyes back to me, though keeping his body facing Aspen.

As Aspens body enters the clearing, I speak to him, never turning away from the dog.

"Ash," I say in a determined voice, before he can reach the rocks, "Don't come any closer."

His steps falter and the wolf moves a step forward, making me back away from the rocks.

His spots me coming out of the rocks, but not the dog, "Chia!" He says relieved, taking a few steps towards me, "I got sc-,"

"I said, don't come any closer!" I say harshly, so he would listen I'm trying to protect him from the danger that lies five feet in front of me.

More crunching sounds come from behind him. The others are here too, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa.
