Just as was said the night before, you were up and ready to head out by 8:00 am in the morning. You threw on your Vault 111 jumpsuit, along with your mix-matching metal and leather armor.

Grabbing your 10mm pistol, you strapped it to your thigh with a holster you had recently picked up here. "Nice". You quickly gathered the rest of your belongings, as you bolted out the door to your hotel room, headed towards the lobby.

You stepped outside and saw MacCready right away due to his telltale green military hat, bullets included. He was leaning up against the side of the Rexford smoking a cigarette. Upon seeing you, he flicked it to the ground and put it out with his boot.

The pair of you nodded at each other in acknowledgement and he fell into stride beside you, as you departed. You left Goodneighbor and started making the long trek back to Sanctuary.

For hours, the only noise heard was from your Pip-Boy playing 'Diamond City Radio', your favorite station. The silence between you and your new merc was somewhat comfortable.

Occasionally, you came across one of your allied settlements and waved at folks as you passed by. Each time you did, MacCready eyed their reactions with interest.

By the time late afternoon was approaching, MacCready started wondering if they were going to stop somewhere for the night, or if his new boss was crazy enough to keep travelling throughout it.

Before he could ask, she turned to face him while walking backwards. "We've been making good progress today, so we're almost there now. It's only about thirty minutes away from here. Should make it there right at sundown."

This suited him, as he preferred to be settling in for the night once dark. He was also interested to see what kind of a place his boss was living in.

----

Exactly as predicted, the two of you arrived at a place that she called Sanctuary. It was a large, spread out settlement, consisting of run down pre-war houses. A few newer shacks had been constructed in a few places as well. One even looked like it might be a restaurant.

There were some people walking casually about and they got excited at the sight of (Y/N). Shouts of, "The General is back"! were heard and some people clapped.

"So.." MacCready started, "You're kind of a big deal around here, huh?"

You chuckled shyly, "Yeah, pretty much. I'm the new General of the 'Minutemen'.

He stopped walking in shock for a moment, before continuing and catching up with you.

You were glad to support a good cause and help make the Commonwealth a better, safer place. You still couldn't believe that you held such a powerful and respected position within an organization, though.

Pretty soon a tall, dark man wearing a cowboy hat and holding a laser musket, appeared in front of both of you.

"General! I'm glad to see you've returned safely." he saluted briefly, then turned to glare at MacCready suspiciously. "Who is this?"

You took a step back to stand beside MacCready while introducing him to Preston. "Preston, this is my hired gun, MacCready. He will be assisting me with getting through the Glowing Sea in one piece.

At the mention of that location, there were a few gasps from people nearby. Preston looked shocked and there was clear concern written on his face.

"Are you sure, General?" he asked you gently, worrying for your wellbeing.

You solemnly nodded. "Yes. Tomorrow I will hold a meeting first thing in the morning, we'll go over all of the details that I discovered in Goodneighbor. For now, let's just get some food and rest. I want us to properly welcome our new guest to Sanctuary."
