Upon arriving back in Sanctuary, the pair of you quickly found Preston and Sturges, signaling for them to meet you in the main yellow building. Once everyone was seated, you stood up and began recounting the recent events to the two minutemen.

You reported that the mission for County Crossing was a success and they were now allied with the Minutemen. You left out the unnecessary details about how difficult that was for you. You then went into how you were passing through Concord, when the two of you were ambushed by raiders, and what you found out from them about the gunners.

In your mind, Preston and Sturges didn't need to know that you and Mac were arguing. That was too personal and didn't pertain to the issue at hand.

"...So the main concern at the moment is, if there are more raiders that weren't part of that raiding party. If so, then they might come back, looking for what happened to their men. Or.. they might instead choose to tell the gunners. Then the gunners might head to Concord, looking.. for you." You glanced over at MacCready and he looked away ashamed that he was being hunted by them.

You pressed on, "Either way, the choice is obvious. We have little time, but we are going to take the gunners out. That will send a clear message to everyone, not to fuck with us. If the raiders do come back, so be it. We'll be ready. Preston, I want you to double the amount of people on guard duty and add more turrets. I have plans on a new guard tower that me and Hotshot will work on."

All three men's eyes snapped up at you, as you said his nickname. You simply ignored them and continued using your authoritative voice, daring them to question you. "We need to rest desperately but before we head out, we will build the guard tower and finish our power armor sets enough to use at Mass Pike. Any questions? Concerns?" You paused while eyeing everyone's reactions.

All were quiet for a moment but then shook their heads no. "Adjourned" you stated. Everyone left the building, going their separate ways. You and MacCready were heading towards your house.

He couldn't help but be impressed by how you commanded a room. "It's no wonder they made you the General, you're a natural leader." He said while smirking at you.

You grinned back at him, "Thanks, I was always good at public speaking. Back in school I was even on the debate team." You bragged even though you knew he would have no idea what you were talking about.

"Ah, another pre-war thing to confuse me with.. I see." Both of you chuckled lightly. There was a brief pause in conversation, as you two enjoyed the feel of the evening breeze and the tranquility it brought with it.

"Hey (Y/N), I can't help but feel guilty for bringing my problems to your doorstep. You and the Minutemen shouldn't have to help me fight my battles." He voiced his guilt which alleviated the heavy knot that had been growing in the pit of his stomach.

You faced him and put your hands on your hips. "Stop that kind of thinking right now. This is exactly what the Minutemen do, help good people who need it. Besides, you know I've got your back, I'm not going to let anything happen to you." Feeling a blush creeping up your cheeks as you spoke, you turned back around to continue walking.

Why am I starting to feel so embarrassed around him? Like everything I say is charged?

You had made it inside now. Both of you were so tired that you just nodded at each other, and wordlessly went straight to bed.

----

You had gotten a decent rest but still woke up very early and sore. Your Pip-boy said it was 5:00 am, but you knew that trying to go back to sleep, would be pointless. Your thoughts had already wondered to thinking about the gunners.
