You woke up at the crack of dawn to get going again. Once packed and ready, you monitored your Geiger counter on your Pip-Boy, to see how much radiation you had absorbed overnight.
It was significant enough to warrant taking a Rad-away, so you brought out two from your bag and handed one to MacCready. "Here, we soaked up a bit last night." You informed him while you took your dose. He did the same as you, but with a nauseated grimace on his face.
Next, you both got into your suits of power armor. Yours was missing the damaged arm piece, as you had removed it the night prior. MacCready was holding said piece in his hands and was slowly trying to bend the metal back into place, giving you room to move. Once that was done and back on your suit, the two of you headed onward towards your destination.
Following your marker for a ways, you soon noticed a large crater nearby on your map, that looked as if buildings had been built within it. You continued on your route, bypassing the crater. You'd previously been warned about the Children of Atom by Preston, and wanted nothing to do with those zealots.
A little while later, you had just finished climbing down from a large cliff. Looking around, you could see a few caves scattered about the landscape. One of these has to be where Virgil is.. we are so close to the marker.
MacCready slid down and landed on his feet next to you. Looking over your shoulder, he glanced at the map on your Pip-Boy along with you. "We're close. Gotta be one of these.. you think?"
You nodded, "Yup, gotta be." Pausing briefly, you turned to face him.
"Look, this guy is an ex-scientist for the Institute, so be calm but cautious. If he's living out here to avoid their detection, he knows that they want him dead, and likely has valuable information." You wanted to avoid the situation escalating out of control.
"Hey, you got it Boss. I'll let you do the talking." He confirmed as you two begun to head off again to locate the right cave.
The third cave you had peeked into, looked to go back far enough. You decided to go further inside, motioning for MacCready to follow as you entered. A few more steps in and you saw two turrets and farther back, the outline of a huge man. He's almost as big as a super mutant.
It was dark so you couldn't make out any details, just a figure. Suddenly, a bright spotlight shined down, blinding you.
A deep, booming voice growled out from the shadows. "Hold it! Take it nice and slow, no sudden moves... " You two were frozen on the spot, unable to see as the figure accused you of being with the Institute and asking where Kellogg was.
"Take it easy, Kellogg's dead." I calmly explained to him.
He took a moment to process this, then responded. "He's dead... Don't you lie to me!"
"I'm not lying. I killed him myself." I stated factually, attempting to look directly towards the figure, despite the bright light.
You could tell that he was hesitant to believe a total stranger had killed the dangerous Institute merc. He spoke momentarily about Kellogg's ruthless nature and how he was expecting the man to 'visit' him.
The spotlight was turned off and your eyes quickly adjusted. You saw a super mutant standing where the figure was, green skin and all. He was dressed in a style resembling an educated human man, instead of the bloodied, tattered rags of standard mutants.
I stifled a startled scream, managing to maintain composure. I was used to hearing the beasts yell about devouring human flesh.
Virgil turned to face me again. "So you.. killed him eh..? Then what do you want with me?"
