What Allie wanted to know, was what her Mom and Neil had against Charlie having an imagination.

What real trouble was him playing Santa causing that they had to take Scott to court to rid him of all his visitation rights? Honestly. Allie was genuinely curious as to how Neil and Laura would answer.

She stood nervously, waiting for the judge to come out. Finally, he walked and said, "May I speak with Allison?"

Allie stood up, wiping her hands on her skirt. She followed the judge, and sat down across from him. The man tilted his head and asked, "You live with your father full time, correct?"

"Yes, your honor."

"And is he a good father?"

"The best." Allie answered. "He's been my rock since I was eight. He was there for me when...when he and my mom got divorced."

That wasn't what she was going to say. But she figured this was better then what she had wanted to say.

The judge nodded. "And has he been good to your brother? He doesn't play favorites"

"Of course he's been good to Charlie," Allie said, not liking what the man was implying. What had her Mom and Neil said? "And he's never played favorites."

After a few more questions, Allie was free to leave. Immediately. she walked over to her Dad, and he set his hand on her shoulder. "How did it go?"

"Good." She mumbled.

It was Charlie's turn next, and Allie felt her stomach sinking the longer and longer he was in there. Finally, they walked out, and Charlie exclaimed, "It's all okay. I told the judge everything. About you and the North Pole."

Allie's face went slack. She stared at her brother, and when the adults left, Allie whirled to face her brother. "What did you do?"

"I told the judge everything." Charlie smiled, obviously not seeing what was wrong with that. "About Dad and you—"

"Charlie, none of that's real." She snapped, still unable to come to terms with any of it. "What is wrong with you? Do you know what you just did?"

Her brother's face began to dim. "What do you mean?"

"What do I mean? You probably just caused Dad to lose all right to you! You know what that means? It means Mom and Neil get to keep you all the time. You don't get to visit Dad and I anymore because you were stupid enough to tell the judge that bullshit!"

Charlie looked up at his sister with tear filled eyes, and even though Allie was yelling at him in frustration towards Laura and Neil, and the grief of not being able to see her brother, he didn't understand that. "You're always so mean to me. Anything I say you're always yelling at me."

"Because you do stupid stuff like this!" Allie was beginning to go shrill.

"Why do you hate me?"

Allie stared at her brother, whatever response she had clogged in her throat. She had't been expecting him to ask that. She didn't hate him. She could never hate him. She just didn't know how to express her emotions, and she always turned any emotion she had into anger. Instead of answering, Allie turned on her heel, and took off running out of the court house.
