After Dean and Michael returned to the others, they put their plan into action, Dean played his part of angry, frustrated Angel; of course, it was easy to play the part convincingly when that was how he truly felt. He made sure to butt heads with everyone, especially Michael, he needed everyone to truly believe that he had joined Cecil out of anger. When he was alone with his loved ones, he made an extra point of playing up his anger and distrust of the three Archangels, laying the groundwork for his betrayal. It was so damn hard to look at his loved ones and lie to them, he hated it, hated himself for doing it, hated Michael for suggesting it, and despised Cecil for making him do this to them.
He knew that what he was about to do was the only way to finally stop that bastard, but it came at a heavy damn price. He was going to hurt his loved ones, he was going to hurt Roman, he was going to lie to them and force them to think that he had abandoned them. The thought of what this was going to do to Roman was breaking his damn heart, it made it hard for him to go through with it. He knew they had to do this, but would everyone understand why when this was all over? He paced the room lost in thought, thankfully, he was alone right now, he didn't know how much longer he could do this without snapping.
"Dean?"
"Yeah, Ro?" Dean said sighing, as he stopped pacing and ran his hands over his face.
"You've been in here all alone for a while now." Roman said gently.
"Yeah, I know, I...I just needed some space." Dean said bitterly, as he went to a chair and sat down.
"Do you still need space? I can..."
"No, stay." Dean replied smiling sadly, as he held his hand out to Roman.
"Okay." Roman replied, as he took his hand and sat beside him, leaning against him. "You want to talk about it?"
"I know we should trust Michael and his brothers, but I...I just don't think I can anymore. Honestly, I never really did, but said I did because I thought with their help we could finally beat that bastard." Dean lied.
"What do you mean?" Roman asked confused.
"Ro, what...what if they aren't who they claim to be?" Dean asked.
"Y-you mean what if they aren't Archangels?" Roman asked still confused.
"No, I...I mean what if they're...evil?" Dean said remembering the script that he and Michael had come up with together and hated having to say it.
"What?" Roman asked shocked. "How can you say that?" He added angrily, as he let go of Dean's hand, sat up, and looked at him like he was crazy. "Are you going to accuse Xavier, Zachariah, Ava, and Mia of being evil too?"
"Look, Ro, don't ask questions you don't want answers to." Dean replied angrily. "I'm just answering you the way I feel, dammit, you're the one who didn't want any secrets between us, remember?"
"What the actual hell is wrong with you, Dean?" Roman demanded upset.
"Right, I get it, Ro, just because I feel like that and my thoughts are different than the rest of you about the Archangels there's something fucking wrong with me." Dean said sarcastically.
"Dean!" Seth's angry voice spoke, as he came into the room alone.
"What, Seth?" Dean said angrily, as he stood, damn he hated this!
"Why are you acting like this?" Seth asked confused.
"What you really mean to ask me, Seth, is how could I ever question the great Archangel's loyalties?" Dean said bitterly.
