(I know that the Malfoy Manor is supposed to be in Wiltshire, but for the purposes of wanting to have better access to places in London—I've made it sort of on the outskirts of the city. I know they could theoretically apparate but remember the issue of the trace being on you!))

I stood at the end of a long driveway, looking up at tall iron gates with sharp points on their ends. The kind that could potentially impale you if you tried to climb over.

They were the kind of gates that weren't exactly welcoming to anyone passing by but, judging by Lucius's privacy preferences, that was entirely the point.

The gates opened as Lucius touched one with the hand that held his cane.

I watched as the gates opened fully, hesitant to walk through. Lucius put his hand out, gesturing me to go in first.

I didn't move as I looked to him, feeling as though my feet were lead.

"After you," he said with impatience.

I hesitated for a moment longer then walked slowly through and began towards the main estate—a huge gothic style manor. It was exactly the kind of house I could see Lucius owning, even if I'd only known him for a short time.

It stood proudly, in a foreboding sort of way.

The gates shut with a loud creaking noise and a shiver went down my spine.

I stopped and turned around to look at it as Lucius brushed past me.

He made no attempt at stopping or slowing down his march to to the house as he said over his shoulder, "It stays closed and locked to keep intruders out."

I raised my brows in question at his remark, turning and jogging to catch up to his long strides, then trailed his heals.

"Is that a common issue here? Intruders?" I asked short of breath.

"Not necessarily," he said, adding as an afterthought, more to himself than to me, "—but it may become one."

"Whats that supposed to mean?"

"You need not worry about any of that. I'm perfectly capable of keeping you safe," he waved me off with a hand.

"Safe from what?" I pushed now that we were at his residence and his weird issues about privacy could no longer count an excuse.

"Again, you needn't concern yourself."

I huffed a breath of annoyance, "So, what? I get to be completely left in the dark?"

He stopped abruptly, causing me to almost run into him.

He turned to give me a pointed look.

"I don't appreciate the tone young lady. I already told you that the less you know the better— for now," he added as I'd opened my mouth.

"So we weren't waiting to get back here for you to explain everything to me?"

"I don't know what put that notion into your head but I'll tell you information on a need to know basis."

"So what was the point of the initiation, then? You still don't trust me after that?"

"Whether I trust you or not is irrelevant. All that matters right now is your safety. That was the point of the initiation. Because you're still a child and need protection. It wasn't an agreement to share every last detail with you about the situation, especially if it will put you at an even greater risk."
