I looked up at the sign of the store we were heading into.
'Flourish and Blotts' sounded more like a place that sells flowers, rather than books.
Still, it didn't disappoint—when we entered I looked around in awe. Though the outside looked small, the inside seemed to have been enchanted to be larger—there were rows and rows of bookshelves and they called to me. I didn't know where to look first.
So much knowledge I wanted to consume—though I knew it couldn't ever be done in a just one lifetime.
I wished to know everything there was about everything—The fairy lands, the history of dragons, the creation of portals, every type of healing potion that existed, the world of the freshwater mermaids... to name a few.
Still... I had plenty of books at the manor's library I had yet to read. I probably would never get through those, let alone a whole bookstore. That fact alone haunted me.
Maybe there was a spell or potion that could help you read faster—or allow you to have temporary photographic memory.
I looked at one of the shelf displays by the entrance.
"I need to check the government section," I heard Lucius say, "You two go find your textbooks and I'll find you both when I'm done."
"Sure," Draco responded.
I was too consumed reading all the titles that I didn't even notice Lucius had already walked away.
"Classical Music: Suzuki Enchantments"
"The Castes of Modern Giants"
"Autobiography of Holger Burner: The Witch of Wands"
"Beast Conservation 3rd Edition"
"Ghosts of Windsor: The Greats"
"Patents for Potions""Hey," Draco's voice snapped me out of my browsing and I turned to him.
He nodded his head to the back, "Let's go."
I hesitated, looking around at the shelves at the front with a look of elation and anticipation.
"Wait—I want to look a bit—especially at that section for a minute," I said to him, pointing to the table display labeled "new and noteworthy" at the front window.
"Fine—the textbooks are in the back but I'm going to check out the Quiddach section first. Meet me there when your done?"
"Sure," I said waving him off as I was already turning to go to the front table.
I heard him huff a laugh.
I looked at all the shiny new covers.
A title immediately caught my eye on one of the stands.
"Purebloods Debunked" by Melanie Foster.
I grabbed it and turned it over to read the back summary.
Discrimination against muggle borns and half blood wizards has been debated for centuries. Grounded in eugenics, the superiority of pure blood magic has only been met with resistance in the more recent centuries. Author Dr. Melanie Foster, a PhD who taught history at Dumstrang, explores the psychology and history of hysteria surrounding 'blood purity", while providing evidence that blood purity has never been a marker of magical ability—
Someone cleared their voice behind me and I turned in surprise, not having heard any footsteps.
I beheld a most unwelcoming sight.
