The next day, the money was delivered to Hank. We had his number and he told us all to meet at the abandoned garage.
It was 10am on a Monday. I won't lie, I was exhausted. The transformation really took the energy out of me. But maybe because it was the first time I ever transformed?
"Thank you for coming everyone," Hank started "I want to congratulate everyone on successfully finding Fredrick Jones. Due to the circumstances, he had to be killed. However, I and the police felt it had to be done. £5000 between six people is a funny number so I decided we all get £830. That means £20 will remain. It's not a lot but I decided to give that extra £20 to Ruby. Ruby put herself in danger to save everyone else, especially Ivy who was being attacked. And for Ruby to handle it the way she did, I don't want to know, clearly there was history - unwanted history - so well done, Ruby," he looks over at me "For tackling that the way you did. It was very mature considering your situation. I would also like to congratulate you on becoming the fire goddess. It's a big title but it basically means you're our protector," I smiled, I'm important "According to legend, there still needs to be a water god or goddess. They will work alongside you, as the fire goddess, to help protect us," everyone started applauding and I gave them all my thanks "Ruby, it's okay if you don't but do you have anything you want to say to everyone?"
Everyone looked towards me and my stupid smile "Of course." I replied.
Hank moved to where I was stood and I took Hank's spot. I cleared my throat and looked over at everyone, they were all looking back at me. I could a sweat dripping down my face.
"First off I would like to say thank you for the volunteering group to have even existed. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to join. Thank you for the opportunity to help you find him. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to face my past with him. Thank you for letting me kill him, even though it was necessary to out of safety. And thank you for helping me find my true title as the fire goddess. But most of all, thank you to the deceased man himself for escaping prison in the first place. It has been a pleasure to go on this journey with you fellow volunteers and I hope you all live the rest of your lives happy and well. As the fire goddess, I promise you all and the rest of the town to rid anyone that's done any harm for if it is necessary to do so. I thank you all for listening."
Everyone starts applauding for what felt like hours. I really felt confident and that feeling was never slipping away.
We all spent hours together as a group; getting to know each other and becoming good friends. In fact, we all exchanged numbers with each other. But everyone put my contact name as The Fire Goddess out of respect. Legend says that it needed to be that way, though it felt too posh for me.

Finally, after it hit 4pm, Hank decided it was time we all split off. I was first to leave so I could see Phoenix.
Last time I saw her was last night when she was asleep. Claire must've told her to let me sleep this morning so she just went to school. I woke up at 9am this morning and got here as soon as I could.
Everyone said their goodbyes as I left the room.
I messaged Claire as I was walking home to tell Phoenix I had a surprise for her. She agreed. Even though I saw Phoenix tucked up in bed last night, and she saw me asleep this morning, it felt like I hadn't seen her in days so I wanted to make this as special as possible. It also gives Claire a surprise as she doesn't know I'm the fire goddess.
I finally got to our front door and knocked on it, hoping Phoenix would answer the door with Claire. Well it was close enough; Claire answered the door with Phoenix behind her on the step.
"Mummy!!!" she screamed as she pushed by Claire and straight into my arms.
I picked her up with ease as I spun her around in my arms "Hello, sweetheart." I kiss her cheek as I hold her close to me.
Claire walked over to us and clung onto me from behind "I missed you, hun." she admitted as she rested her head on the back of my shoulder.
"I missed you too, Claire." I smiled as I kept a hold of Phoenix.
We stayed like that for a few minutes, ignoring our verbally aggressive neighbours as they judge us. Eventually we grew tired of their whining and we went back inside. We all sat in the living room; Claire in the chair and I was on the sofa, Phoenix sat on my lap.
Phoenix was talking to us about her day at school. Then Claire caught me up on Phoenix's control of her powers. There's no concern anywhere, that's for sure.
"So I have a surprise for you both," they both looked at me "But first we need to get to the park."
"Why de pawk? Why can't oo show us hewe?" Phoenix asked.
"You'll see, sweetheart. But I think we should dress you into something a little more comfortable." I smiled, she's still in her uniform.
"It's itchy." she complains as she starts pulling on her school shirt collar.
I picked her up and took her upstairs. I helped her dress into a long sleeved shirt with jeans and trainers. She loves that style. And it's cute on her for her age.
I brushed over her hair then carried her back downstairs. Claire was standing by the leather chair, waiting for us. I put Phoenix down then sighed "Right, let's go then."
